    dumb question about HST

    1) those who advocate throttling as an advantage for gear don’t understand the negative on a modern DPF machine where you need to keep it at or above 2000 rpm. The old days of throttle control for speed are gone 2) whine? Change to premium hydraulic fluid and the whine goes away 3) rob power...

    Ford 640 Steering backlash

I have a brand new 640. I have seen many posts suggesting I use the stud/nut on the side of the steering box to adjust the backlash. I haven’t found any explanation of exactly what that does and which way to do, or how far to go. How do I know when I have it adjusted properly? When would I...

    Which WoodMaxx Flail Mower

No. You an Leonz both say this but physically it doesn’t make sense. The underside of a flail is a decent size space with lots of openings. Where would the air go? You’d have to displace all that air out the back creating a pretty powerful fan. And where would it come from? The laws of...

    "Wetlands" redefined

No they aren’t. They are always done by the COE. Local agencies sometimes help but it is a federal responsibility. If the DNR is doing it, those aren’t federal wetlands/WOS

    Which WoodMaxx Flail Mower

Supposed to but I never do. Just skid it sideways a bit on the roller. 1050# on my 35hp machine….if I lifted it every time I turned that’s an incredible amount of wear and tear

    Honey bees

In north Texas we get a plant called “snow on the prairie” starting in august; dearth is basically July 4th-mid/late august or even September. You don’t want honey from that. At best it tastes “spicy” and bothers digestion. At worst it gives you a pretty bad set of digestive issues (it is...

    Garden tractor life span

I plan on replacing every 7 years. I beat the crap out of mine on hard clay soils; I buy 6-7 speed manuals and run in high gear and sometimes clip trees or fence corners at full speeds….don’t change the oil either. I figure I cut 25-30 times per year at about 1-1/2hours/cut so 40-50 hours per...

What to do with a short PTO

51A100 PTO Over Running Clutch Coupler Fits Massey Ferguson Fits John Deere Oliver https://a.co/d/3eZnhEX Adds about 4” and allows you to make the connection further back from the tractor. (Not going to comment on safety aspects of having this unguarded rotating item, each need to evaluate...

Three children, one adult dead in farm tractor crash in York County, PA.

I can run behind my grandkid and hold the seat on a bicycle. Not a good idea to teach tractors the same way.

What to do with a short PTO

I bought one because my (auction) flail mower shaft was too short by 3”. Worked perfectly AND I got an overrunning clutch out of it.

    PTO Quick Attach?

Not perfectly. But that’s why God made U-joints. Sure a little more wear but since I was going to have to buy a new shaft anyway (too short), plus I can hook up now in a couple of minutes vs 15-20 and back pains after. Well worth it if I wear my u joints a little sooner…

    PTO Quick Attach?

I bought an overrunning clutch for $80 on Amazon. Solved 3 problems at once: 1) flail mower spin-down 2) 2nd hand flail mower pto shaft 3” too short (clutch was 3-1/2”) 3) brought “pto shaft” out into view and within reach

    Stupid Things I Have Done

Never had a boat growing up. Got a nice 75hp 16’ just for me and my 16 yr old son to run around local lakes. Had a few issues, found someone to change the ignition system and ran like a top. my boy and I wanted to invite my wife to come along one day (she hadn’t ever been) to show off. Brought...
