Tractors are getting more costly every year

1956 dad bought a new JD 70 diesel (about 50 hp) , hitch and 3 bottom plow for $3900. 1967 I started working for $2.35 about $100 a week and after filling the gas tank for a few dollars I had plenty left over. 1972 A new MF 760 diesel, a/c, 14 foot grain table and 6 row corn head $39,000. 1987 A...

    Diff lock not working

Have you engaged the diff lock with one wheel spinning and the other standing still? If so you may have destroyed the diff lock. Diff lock on small tractors is a mechanical positive engagement device. There are either pins the slide into holes or dogs that lock into the differential cage to...

    open hydraulics

A basic review of hydraulics. 1 a pump moves oil it does not create pressure. 2. a valve controls how oil is directed. 3. In an open center system oil MUST not be stopped. If flow is stopped a big bang will happen wether a hose, pump, drive shaft, or relief valve. 4. The load applied to the...

Ditch Witch J20 - Battery Keeps Running Down - Wisconsin TJD Engine

Check and/or clean all cable connections at batery and the connections where the "other end" of the cables attach. If any isolation mounts are used for the engine be sure there is a good connection between engine and frame, especially if the battery gronds to the frame. If you don't have one...

    HP increase module? Deere 3038e

Yes I know the pulling tractor is the xtreme, but it is an example of what overfueling can do. Some tractors may be able to stand 10% but some cannot without bad things happening. Years ago working for a MF dealer had a customer that purchased a 255 diesel. As with most he did not want to pay...

    Mowing Cutter death trap

The drawbar length is crucial for proper PTO shaft engagement and operation. A 1000 RPM PTO system is typically found on more modern and higher horsepower tractors and is designed to handle heavier implements. The 16-inch measurement is a standard for 1000 RPM PTOs and ensures the PTO shaft can...

    HP increase module? Deere 3038e

Years ago I knew a farmer that installed turbos on his tractors for improved fuel efficency. Went to White service school and they showed us the gears in the 2-135 transmission and the 2-155 transmission. They 2-155 was about 1/4 inch wider just to handle that 20 horsepower. Want to see what...

    Mowing Cutter death trap

As has been pointed out in previous posts your joints are out of phase. Also noticed you only half half the shield on the PTO shaft and the bell over the front joint is bent in, is it cotacting the yoke? The back half of the shield is missing causing the front half to rattle. Suggest you...

Have I been using my weed trimmer wrong?

Here is my twenty five cents -- thats two cents with inflation. Many years ago I worked for a dealer that sold snowmobiles and noticed if someone held the throttle wide open, as if trying to catch his buddies crossing a large field, they almost always "burned" a piston, Burned on the exhaust...

    Rant against insurance agencies

Years ago when I worked for an ag dealer there was a combine that had caught fire and burned. Believing all the trash put out by insurance companies and what I had been taught about cheating on insurance, I wrote the estimate for only what had to be replaced and for the labor I felt was needed...

    This has me stumped.

The charging coil is simply that it is not connected in any way to the magnetos. I tis connected to the regulator.

    Tips on loading dead tractor

The easiest and quickest way is to run a chain or winch cable under the bucket and pull it on the trailer or truck. The loader will rise to the ocassion. Or load the tractor backwards and the loader will float as it is loaded. Working for a deaaler have done that many times.
