    DIY Root Ripper

I built one for mine, looks like the one pictured with a stouter tooth. It centers the load on the loader and is better that most grapples. A grapple is the only thing I have tweaked cylinders with. So no matter what you do you still have a front end loader not a backhoe. CJ

House A/C problem due to breaker

I should have specified the 15 to 20 amp circuits my bad. Now as far as overhead lines yes aluminum is used but they are also ACSR with steel reinforcement. Aluminum is used for 1 reason and 1 reason only and that is cost. Not a valid reason to risk burning a home down. As I have said I have...

House A/C problem due to breaker

Test the start cap as tinhack said it is [possibly] bad but normally once they fail they are dead. My guess is the POS aluminum wire loosened up and caused a voltage drop requiring more amps to start the unit. I don't care what anyone says aluminum wire sucks! I personally have seen it burn down...

    Hydraulics Piping Questions

Do NOT use clamps to keep 2500psi of pressure contained!! The bite type fittings that PTSG recommended work fine just retighten after a few heat cycles. go with fnpt or mjic and make a short jumper hose rated for the pressure. CJ

    Grapple Recommendations

I have a 48" light duty grapple, and yes I have bent it many times. And a 84" HD grapple that is a Bobcat brand that was a double lid that I cut down to 58" and widened the top lid to 40" and removed the second lid. It still weighs around 900 lbs but that is not a issue for me. I find that the...

Are you "brand" person when it comes to your tractor?

No. When I purchased my tractor it was the best value for my $$. Not the best price but value. My local dealer is 150 miles away because the know what they are doing and actually stock parts and I do break things on occasion. The last 2 tractors that I specd for my neighbors were both Kubotas...

    DPF Regeneration driving me crazy...

Yea, the harder you run it the least amount of time it will regen. It will be harder to adapt for a gear tractor unless you were pulling a plow or running a blower. I was running a larger Volvo ex and was surprised when it regened every 4-5 hours. It gave you a warning then a countdown, I guess...

    quick-couplers - when are iso-5675 compatible with iso-7241-1 (A?)

Any 1/2" quick coupler will outflow a compact tractor, 10GPM is nothing for a 1/2" with basically no to very little pressure drop. 3/8" will out flow most compact tractors. CJ

    quick-couplers - when are iso-5675 compatible with iso-7241-1 (A?)

There is no "standard" when it comes to couplers as Kenny said. Most of the time the ISO A series or 5675 are used and like he said they can have either ball or poppet. When I have a customer come in saying they are just the "standard" coupler I just take them to our "standard" row of shelves...

    Teflon tape on hydraulic fittings

Been working with Hydraulics for 40+ years and building systems for 30. After having a few leaks on every system we built starting out, I had my guys and myself use both TEF pipe dope and high quality TEF tape and had very few leaks if any afterward. Now this is on NPT and BSTP. Use no sealant...

Best way to shorten cylinder rod?

?? with the rod extended out you will never get close to the gland seal. Normally unless the rod is extremely large heat only goes 10" or so down the rod before you can't touch it. CJ

Best way to shorten cylinder rod?

If it is just chromed you can cut right through it. If it is induction hardened with chrome then just "red line" it with a torch "heat until it just discolors' and then cut with the saw. That is the fastest cleanest way to cut hardened rod. CJ

Best way to shorten cylinder rod?

Just be sure you have enough dump at full height with the 2.5" removed. CJ
