I just fitted a new generator to my 72 4000 and the battery light Is on when it is idling? This did not happen with my old generator? What CuD b the problem?

Hi, I have a 72 3cyl diesal ford 4000, I just installed a new generator and when the tractor is ticking over the battery light is on. It will go off when you rev her up to 800 rpm. What cud b wrong. I checked when she is running it is charging fine. Thanks.
