What Caused This Wood Deck Failure?

I'm redecking a deck I built 32 years ago with "old school" pressure treated. Other than deck boards the joists and beams are still in good shape. Even the posts buried in the ground and concrete (allowed by code back then) still seem solid.

    White Ash Lumber

I first noticed decline in the ash trees here in NJ from the borer about nine years ago. All of them are dead now. Ash trees were about 20% of our 30 acre forest and the decrease in the canopy has really increased growth of invasive species like multiflora rose. Many pin oak and red oak are...

    White Ash Lumber

I have my own small mill and have been using ash for board and batten siding on outbuildings. I use a dark pigmented stain to finish it and have had no problems with exterior use as long as there is no ground contact.

Culled my first rooster yesterday :(

Yes I have a GSD that will tolerate no aggressive behavior of any kind from anything or anybody towards the grandkids. A rooster wouldn't know what hit him.

    Electric Grease Gun-love it

Got the Miluakee as a gift about a month ago. Very pleased with its operation on all those backhoe fittings.

    New (to me) 2019 XJ2025H

Finally got around to checking this out. Apparently the reason the valves are on the inside is that the manufacturer or dealer reversed them to get a few inches extra clearance for the backhoe subframe. I guess I could get some wheel spacers and flip them back around again. Mine is a 2015 xj

    New (to me) 2019 XJ2025H

What is up with the valves on the inside of the wheels? A serious pain in the butt to check pressure or add air, especially with the backhoe frame in the way. Otherwise this has been a great shovel and wheelbarrow and trail maintence tool

Yellow Jacket Nests While Bush hogging, whats your plan?

That was probably a Cicada Killer. They are large solitary wasps matching your description. They paralyze a cicada and fly it back to the hole in the ground. One egg is laid on the cicada and the larva eats it alive when it hatches. They almost never sting humans- unless they do something lik...

What Do You Do For Exercise?

Yes. Learned this in cardiac rehab after a triple bypass a few years ago.

What Do You Do For Exercise?

Me too. The dog insists on it every day. About a mile and a half on my trails and the rest on adjoining greenway property.

Yellow Jacket Nests While Bush hogging, whats your plan?

With the newer tractors, I can get off the seat and everything stops. then run. With the older ones, that's a really bad idea when the tractor runs with you or over you. I've been stung dozens of times on multiple occaisions but the worst was by just one yellow jacket. While working outside I...

    New XJ2025h

I've had one of those with a backhoe for a few years now and am very pleased with it. Just have to remember that its just a wheelbarrow and shovel on steriods and not a commercial hoe. Fantastic for the small jobs and can get bigger ones done if you have the time.
