I had an orange tractor a few years back that was 50 years old and it needed an engine rebuild, new front wheel and tire, and few other items. Between used, aftermarket, and still available OEM parts I didn’t have any issues.
By the way, that orange tractor, was a WD Allis Chalmers!!
Right now I have two mowers to handle my mowing jobs. One is a regular lawn tractor with a 40" cut for the 1 acre lawn and the other is a DR mower for the 1 acre field with higher grass, rough terrain and rocks. Both my field and parts of lawn are on slopes. I can cut most of the lawn with no...
I have a Ford 1920 with the shuttle shift and I have to jiggle the shuttle lever more and more to find the "sweet spot" to get it to start. It is taking longer and longer to find the spot and was wondering if anyone here has had that problem and what can be done about it? Can the switch be...
I have a Ford Model 1920 Diesel and the owners manual calls for the valves to be adjusted every 500 or so hours. The previous owner said he never adjusted them. My Dad also has a Ford tractor, which he bought new, and he has never adjusted his. If it's running okay should I just leave well...
I have read in a thread when applying the brakes when in 4WD you are in theory applying brakes to the front and rear wheels since they are locked together by the drive shaft. Does this only apply as long as you are using the engine also for braking? So if you apply the clutch then apply the...
I bought a Ford 1920 about two months ago and when I first got it I couldn't engage the PTO without the gears grinding. I know that this has a dual clutch and the clutch had about 1" of free play from the top of the travel. I adjusted the free play to almost nothing so that now I can engage...
I have a shed to store my tractor that is enclosed on three sides. It is a pretty small shed where the tail end of the tractor just fits. I have been thinking about putting a tarp over the tractor during the winter when I am not using the tractor which could be as much as 2 or 3 months. If I...
Got my 4 wheel drive tractor a few weeks ago and was mowing on a small slope going forward and tried to back up in some wet grass and got stuck. I was in 2 wheel drive and the left rear was spinning so I put it in four wheel drive then the left rear and right front started spinning. So I...
Just bought a Ford 1920 about a month ago with 1500 hours on it and not real familiar with the correct sound of this engine. To me it sounds like one cylinder hits harder than the others especially when cold. I know diesels clatter somewhat especially when cold but this engine sounds a little...
This will be my first winter with a tractor in many years and my first ever with a diesel. I live in Tennessee so our winters are not quite as harsh as our northern neighbors but it can get pretty cold here in January. My tractor is located on another piece of property about 20 miles from my...
Does anyone know where I can find a Ford equivalency chart for Ford filters and fluids? My owners manual shows the Ford numbers for the filters and fluids but the nearest dealer is 50 miles away and I can't get off work to go. I am sure that Fram, Wix, Castrol etc. probably makes their filters...
I have a 1920 with 4WD and a FEL and a 5ft. bushhog type mower. I have a slope(I am not good at judging how many degrees it is). It looks to be about as steep or steeper than jinmans signature picture except about 300 feet from top to bottom. It is about 1 acre to mow and it is about 4 feet...
Hello,
I have already learned a lot of info. from this forum as I am a new (again) tractor owner. I owned a WD Allis Chalmers years ago and sold it when I sold the land I had at the time. I just bought a few acres of land and of course had to have a work(play) tool to go with it. I purchased...
