I was concered about the pan a bit, as the directions said to mix the mortar quite wet. The pad slogged around a bit if I pressed on it in certain areas after I had it set in place and put in set screws above the lip to keep it from floating up. I was worried some parts would not be fully solid...
I guess I'm not building this thing with selling in mind.
Also, no woman has been involved in the design, so if it is ever sold (after I'm dead), it likely will only appeal to a bachelor.
Yes, but I think the difference in countertop material thickness has already bit me. Luckily I am able to add material to my half wall as opposed to remove.
So if I go with granite I have to raise my existing kitchen countertop wall 1/2". Maybe I just plan on doing that with a plywood spacer.

I don't know much about cabinets, but need to get the range in to get the gas hooked up ASAP, and electrician needs the island rough framing done.
I'm thinking a C-shape frame with 3/4"...
The stairs are to access the living space, which is only on the second level, above garage space.
I'm pretty sure these stairs are made from Southern Yellow Pine.
Got the proper nails for the bottom of the studs into the treated plates. Also got the stairs fully secured to the opposite wall with Loctite glue & GRK screws. Stairs are very solid now. Not sure if I need temporary railings for the contractors (insurance etc).
I screwed 2x4's into the...
