I believe the source of sound is in this valve somewhere should I pro actively disassemble and inspect if so what should I look for. Or where it is intermittent do I wait for the problem to get worse so I can more easily diagnose.
Ok I have confirmed there is power steering and the sound is coming from the housing where power steering hydraulic lines originate. I ran the tractor yesterday for about 3 hours and never made a peep. But this morning started it up and it hummed a little bit but stopped.
Geared yes 2 stage clutch yes noise is intermittent but does not go away when depressing clutch. I’m fairly confident the sound is coming from distribution box at base of steering column
The tractor is fairly new to me and although fairly mechanically inclined I’m pretty new to working on tractors what would I look for to find out if it has power steering because I’m pretty sure this model was made both with and without. Thanks
Here is a video link to YouTube of the sound as I view through port in side of transmission. The tractor is in neutral at idle to start you can hear it faintly and it gets louder as I increase rpm.
New developments it appears that the sound which I can best describe as a whine or hum almost like a tired bearing would make. I believe it is coming from the distribution box located above transmission at base of steering column. Is there a bearing or anything in there that would make a sound...
This is a 1992 John Deere 870 with about 1300 hours. It is making a humming/ whining sound that seems to originate from the distribution box located at base of steering column. When the whining starts the motor rpm’s also increase any insight would be great.
Sounds like one of the air intake hoses is loose.
When you say one of the air intake hoses do mean the hose coming from air intake filter? If so that hose seams tight on both ends. Any other thoughts?
I will check that for sure I’m seriously hoping for something simple as this was a large investment and am hoping to get many years of service out of this tractor
I recently bought a 1992 John Deere 870 it has 1300 hours on it after owning for 3 days or so and putting probably 8 hours on it i started hearing a whoooo sound accompanied by the rpm’s jumping up. It appears to be happening in all ranges and in all gears it usually happens when accelerating or...
