I live in south eastern Australia near the coast on an acreage that is surrounded by National Park forests, coastal lakes and tidal estuaries. It is a warm temperate climate with high annual rainfall (1,200mm/year), although over the past two years we have has four 1 in 100 year rain events... I have 100 - 150mm (6") sandy clay loam topsoil with medium clay below of 0.75 - 1.5m depth over shale rock. I use my ditcher plough to form raised mounds in rows for my orchard plantings, and my pasture is a mix of tall fescues and phalaris with sub clovers and lucerne. My most recent purchase is the backhoe attachment which I am so excited about. i'll dig a creek line and a 1000 cubic metre dam down near my bore (the biggest I can build without a bunch of official paperwork). Stock will have access to water at a weir I will build as the creek crossing and I will end up building a new cottage and a fishing jetty down by the dam in time for my "retirement", because that's what farmers do... retire.
