Mold and grass buildup on mower deck underside

No way I've found to prevent grass/dirt mixture from building up, but I have a pretty good way to clean it. If you're lucky enough to have pine cones, run over them. They do the trick for me!

Bush Hog SQ172 - Getting to Blades

I tried removing the Jesus nuts with a huge 3/4" impact wrench. No go! There are 4 bolts that hold the gear box on. If I remove the 4 nuts on them, will the entire stump jumper/blade assembly fall free? Another option is flipping the entire deck upside down, but I would have to find a helper...

    Are ATV's Morphing into Tractors?

I think ATV's are rapidly morphing into tractors. Am I wrong? If you think about how ATV's started out as sqirrely 3 wheelers, to 4WD, to side-by-sides with canopies, to power steering, to the proliferation of small implements, it looks like the classic 80 year old cast iron tractor...

    Kubota Tool Box Noise

Any creative ways to keep the little tool box quiet? I don't like to whine and complain, but it vibrates so loudly it drives me nuts. The only things I have thought of so far are removing it, or pouring it full of molten lead. I need better options, because I like to store my PTO cover...

    L4400 Recall

Got a call from my dealer today saying I need to bring my L4400 (geared) in. The recall is for the PTO. My tractor was purchased in June 08, and wasn't on the lot more than a week or 2, so it undoubtedly has a pretty high serial number. I did a lot of bush hogging, and never noticed any...

Flipping Hitch Pins on a 6' Bush Hog

Either my L4400 3 point hitch is too dinky, or my SQ172 is too robust. I only have about 1/2" clearence per side to fit my hitch arms on to the hitch pins. Needless to say, it has to be perfectly aligned to hitch it up. There's no sense in that. Wonder who messed up, Kubota, or Bush hog? (I'm...

Rotary Cutter  Bush Hog SQ 172 Top Link

Just got a SQ172, and really like it so far. (Mowed 1 time with it) The top link attachment is different than I'm used to. My previous RC (Woods BB72) had a flexible link to attach the top link to. That way, you could keep the top link slack while mowing, and keep unnecessary strain and shock...

Oh, My Aching Neck, or Tractor Mirrors

How about rubbing that for me... just about there! :D Seriously, I really do have a bad neck. Instead of giving up my tractoring, I'm thinking of adding a large mirror or mirrors to the ROPS bar and/or rear fender. I need to see behind, up close, to keep an eye on the 3 point and implements...

    Building a "Brush Hauler"

What's a brush hauler? Dunno, never heard of one! ;) All seriousness aside, I need a very low wagon to haul brush. I trim my fence rows 1-2 times a year, and have the darndest time hauling and piling up the brush. What does everyone use to haul brush? I don't have a flatbed trailer, and...

    Howse "Import" Finish Mower Questions

Me and a friend went shopping for a used 6' finish mower. Stopped at a used implement dealer, and he had none in the yard. He did have new Howse finish mowers. On close inspection, I wasn't real impressed with the design. Then I spied what I thought was a Bush Hog finish mower. It turned out to...

    Goodbye Blue!

Well, I said goodbye to my TC35a/16LA a few days ago. Some nice fellow wanted it more than me, and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I've owned a TC29 too, and both tractors served me very well. I really abused the loaders and the clutches, and they held up good considering. My NH dealer...

Price Check  Price Check for L4400 Gear Tractor

With loader and standard 72" bucket. Plane jane, no extras. I was quoted $20,325 plus tax. Seems awfully high for a plain gear tractor. Dealer has a store in 3 closest towns, so he has me by the short and curly's. :( I would hate to drive 60mi to the only other store in the area not...

    Opinions on JD 4105

Looks like I'm selling my NH TC35a. Someone fell in love with it and made me an offer I couldn't possibly refuse. It was a pretty good tractor for 5 years, but alas, my NH dealer closed down. My choices now are green and orange, and I'm looking for a machine in the 40-45hp range. Orange...

Rotary Cutter  Used Bush Hog FTH 600 Value

Found a used Bush Hog FTH 600 (6') finishing mower that was used less than 1 summer. It has been sitting for 2 years, and has considerable rust under the deck. Wheels, belts, drive shaft, guards, all appear mechanically sound. Is anyone familiar with this unit? Is it decent? The guy wants...
