Yeah I got excited thinking a “flail mower is a flail mower” the good news is it seems like I got a good mower at a really good price so even if I flip it I can try and find a better brush mower.

I upgraded to a john deere 950 a few years ago, for just that reason the TC18 was too small.

So where does it stand with like multi floral rose bush? My end game here was to maintain old logging trails at a hunting lease. I’m not cutting down trees or making new trails but its more than just tall grass. Should I kick this one down the road for a rotary brush hog?

Ok so knowing I need to replace blades anyways, I can’t just take these all off and put on brush blades?

Awesome I’ll have to touch base with them and see what my options are. The slip clutch goes between the gearbox and the PTO shaft correct? It came with a PTO shaft, but it is in rough shape. I don’t even know if it’s useable

Well good to hear it was a good buy either way! Its missing several blades… before I buy them does anyone know if I can throw brush style blades on this mower? Also any suggestions for gearbox oil?

I have seen some other posts on here some of you guys are experts on these mowers, hoping to get a little more info! Picked this up at the end of a farmers driveway last night for 800$. Might of got ahead of myself, i was looking for something to cut brush with.

That seems like the obvious error I just don’t get why would the bucket go halfway up and stop… its going up like it should corresponding to the correct control movement. It seems more like its not getting fluid or air in the system. Is there any way to bleed this system or should it self purge?

Yeah I even pulled it in the garage so it was perfectly level and it checks good. And yes the lines are in the same places as before. The levers are doing the correct functions just not operating normally

Another interesting note is that if I use both functions at the same time it works perfectly. For example if I raise and curl in at the same time it sounds normal and works great, same with lowering and dumping the bucket but as soon as I go back to one function it go’s back to acting up

Is there a dummies guide for what size hose’s I have and what kind of fittings I’d need? I imagine most 80’s John Deere’s are pretty standard?
