Installing a hot water booster heater versus hot water recirculating setup

This is what I am leaning towards at the moment, maybe a 10 gal size tank that will run off of 120V. Thanks for the input!

Installing a hot water booster heater versus hot water recirculating setup

Thank you for this input, this was the kind of "real world" experience I was looking for here. If I go with option #3, which is what I am leaning towards, I was thinking an 18 gal or heater would be good, but after reading your post I tend to agree that perhaps a 10 gal water heater might be...

Installing a hot water booster heater versus hot water recirculating setup

Thank you for that info! If I go with option #1 or # 2, I will definitely keep this in mind.

Installing a hot water booster heater versus hot water recirculating setup

Yes, the new tank would be installed under the house and piped in just in "front" of the first bathroom that the long run from the water heater gets too. They are in "series", from what I can tell of the plumbing, so it would then provide hot water to BOTH baths. Thanks!

Installing a hot water booster heater versus hot water recirculating setup

The reason I was thinking of going with a 120V unit is to avoid having to run a new 220V circuit from the breaker panel to the other end of the house. If I go with 120V, I think I can use an existing 120V circuit already under the house that is only being used to power a GFCI outlet on the front...

Installing a hot water booster heater versus hot water recirculating setup

Good question! I haven't tried to calculate the costs of a water heater by itself and then compare it to the cost of a recirc pump. The problem is I don't know how much my water heater is on or off during a monthly billing cycle. Nor do I have any idea how much the recirc pump would run (if I...

Installing a hot water booster heater versus hot water recirculating setup

Yep, I was aware of recirc pumps that have timers on them, and the bypass valves with thermostats built in. I wasn't planning to replumb the long run (which is 1/2" copper) with PEX, that would increase the cost to solve my issue. Thanks for the input though.

Installing a hot water booster heater versus hot water recirculating setup

I was thinking of adding just one small water heater, not three! Obviously I want to solve the problem the cheapest way I can. If I set it up with three valves I can bypass the remote water heater tank (near the two baths) if I wanted to. That way, I could come back and install the recirculating...

Installing a hot water booster heater versus hot water recirculating setup

Hi all, wanted to get some opinions and feedback on an issue with the layout of our ranch style house. It has two baths, which are on one end of the house, and a two car garage, which is on the other end the house. I haven't measured, but I would guess it's about 70 ft run or so from the water...

John Deere 2025 into the pond....

Yep, he sunk that one pretty good!! I hope he got it flushed out and running again! Being a southern born and raised fellow here in the deep south, ice doesn't hardly get thick enough to walk on, let alone drive a 10k lb piece of equipment out on it. I could never risk doing something like that...

For the folks with no snow...

Keep that crap up there!! We are going to be in the upper 60's and low 70's this week in SC! The hardwood trees are starting to bud out some, and with DST changing in 2 weeks, Spring is about to spring!!!

John Deere 2025 into the pond....

Saw this on Youtube today. Apparently it happened about 3 days prior to me posting it. He was fortunate, no injury and the tractor seems to be ok.

Transferring propane from old tank to new one

Ahh, I did not realize that. Thanks for pointing it out, and scratch what I said earlier about taking a tank back to the propane provider on a trailer!

Transferring propane from old tank to new one

I believe that the homeowner can load that tank up on a trailer and deliver it to the yard of the propane company. They will have a backhoe or truck with boom crane to pick it up off your trailer. At least, I was considering switching my propane provider and I asked my current provider if I...

Transferring propane from old tank to new one

Yep, the tanks are usually (but not always) owned by a propane company. The owner of the tank is the only one *legally* allowed to remove propane from it, or to fill it with more propane. At least, that's what I've been told. Now, if you OWN your own tank, I believe then you can get any propane...
