I got lucky (ish).
No problems with the fuel lines or carburetor.
No problems with electrical (ignition) other than melted wires.
Thought I should post in case anyone else is debating on rebuilding.
Plus the importance of working fire extinguishers.
Now all the family vehicles have them too.
The old burnt E110 is mowing again.
About $400 in parts gets me a mostly new riding mower.
Most of the time was spent digging out charred melted plastic.
Then new wiring harness and some new engine plastic.
I had a new S100 next to it so I could figure out where things went.
It looks...
Before mowing again with the new S100 JD mower I cleaned up all the grass and seeds I could find.
I also found the shredded and dried uo remains of Mr Mouse. So I now think the new mower had a mouse nest and probably the older E110 also had a nest which caused the fire.

It was hard to see how much was stuck...
For comparison I also have a John Deere S100 that is similar in design but newer.
This was after mowing my yard. I wanted to check to see if any grass would be collecting near the exhaust. Looks pretty clean. I did notice the plastic hinge gets warm.
No definitive cause.
Gas? My neighbor said it had to have been a gas leak for it to go up that quickly. But we didn't have any previous leaks, and the left side (as you are sitting on it) has the carburetor and that side didn't burn as much as the right side.
Electrical? Very unlikely since...
Our John Deere E110 mower caught fire last Saturday. Still don’t know the reason why. It started in the front near the exhaust. But it didn’t have any electrical issues or gas leaks. It was the first time we mowed my daughters backyard. It wasn’t that big a yard 60x45 feet. The grass wasn’t that...
Well it happened to me too.
