Make sure you fully document what happened and your losses. Much easier to do this now and preclude memories from changing later. Lots of pictures will help along with reports from Fire Department, police, neighbor descriptions, etc.
Spray equipment with silicone spray before you use it. If snow won't stick the issue is moot. Been doing this for years and I could fill in floor drains as there is so little snow to melt.

If you don't mind investing a few $$$, get in touch with a lawyer that is familiar with federal laws for warranties. Just because a company writes something down does NOT mean it's legal.

That story doesn't pass the smell test. So what if they write down the VIN number wrong, they have all the driver's licenses and vehicle plate numbers to work from. Sounds like an urban legend to me, and not a very good one.
