    Fire from neighbor's land

Apparently you are one of those people. I spent a lifetime in the sawmill business and I never ever knew or heard of any tree that had the value you suggest.

Talk me out of an excavator!

I am pro excavator. In my case I rationalize buying late model low hour 10,000# used equipment as “an asset class”. My entire retirement is the result of saving and investing. The numbers on the computer screen are not as reassuring as the iron in my barn. I probably won’t make money, it won’t...

Hydraulics partially not working at high RPM

From your description I suspect the issue is in the valve. Because the “lift” works fine and the problem migrated to the trailer. Most of the advice on here is good, confirming pressure and flow at different points will eventually reveal the issue. My “start with the last thing you touched”...

Mahindra 4550 front wheel came off

Maybe, I have had some disappointing experiences with Grade 8 bolts. They are strong on tensile strength, but tend to be brittle. The sawmill where I worked converted a big log carriage to 3 piece wheels on the guide rail. Inner and outer steel “rims” sandwiched polyurethane “tires” . The...

What is your experience with Stabil?

I value your opinion, and I think you are spot on. The mills where I used to work used fuel consumption to establish maintenance intervals (a program recommended by Caterpillar), along with a conscientious sampling program. I have sort of followed the same approach at home. And found that...

What is your experience with Stabil?

I had to look that up. This part of NY is the terminal moraine where glaciers stopped advancing during some ice age. We are located just south of the Finger Lakes. The geology is almost random, I think my springs are layer of permeable gravel, sandwiched by impermeable layers. My theory is the...

What is your experience with Stabil?

My bad, when I reread my post I realized I did not make it clear the tank I had water in was the small 6.5 gallon “day” tank not my storage tank. I agree that Stabil will not correct my mistake, but what I found curious is the blue Marine Stabil did not disperse in the fuel. So I shared it.

What is your experience with Stabil?

Good points, My filter on the storage tank does not have a drain but it is for particle and water removal. The drain sounds better. I appreciate the feedback. I obviously overshared and muddied my point, which was that I was surprised to see that the Stabil had not dispersed in the fuel. The...

What is your experience with Stabil?

Right you are, my post was probably too deep in the weeds on background, but it was the obvious water/Stabil/gas separation in the jar I thought was interesting, so I shared it. I had assumed the Stabil dispersed in the fuel.

What is your experience with Stabil?

I have big pond built in 1995 (2 acres) with a long story, condensed version, my major spring actually reversed when pond got full after 2 years. So I pumped the water out and brought in an excavator to dig out the spring and pack it with bentonite to seal it. I was not willing to wait another 2...

YT359c Dealer states insurance from Yanmar will be $10,000.

My dealer gave me a fair quote for the YT235 tractor, loader with 3rd function, and 2 rear remotes. it took couple of weeks for hydraulic parts to be delivered and installed. They did a nice job, and it was ready to load when we showed up with the trailer. Never dawned on me to insure the...

Pinhole leak in hydraulic line on backhoe. There a clamp or sleeve fix?

A couple of observations. In my 50 years plus as millwright working on both mobile a stationary equipment I have never seen a way to repair a hole in a hydraulic pressure hose. remember the outside is just a cover. Second hose ends are not meant to be interchangeable, Weatherhead, Parker...

    JD 4100 starting issue

I had a 4200 that gave me fits about starting and was advised to change thermistor by a JD dealer. There was fair amount of disassembly to get that done. The issue was that corrosion on the fuse reduced the voltage enough so the fuel solenoid did not pull in. It’s worth a quick check.

Need help getting rusty grade 5 bolt out of stainless steel.

My favorite stuck bolt trick is to use a brazing tip, because it is important to focus the heat. Heat the bolt, not the stainless, and as it approaches red quench it in water. The last time I used that trick on a neighbors truck, the bolt with his broken easyout in it, spun right out. My theory...
