Actually the B did come with a water pump. Also a dash pod, upgraded side panels and different headlight bezels. I guess like the difference between a Ford and Mercury. Same platform with some upgrades.
My y YM 1700B had a similar issue when I used it, but not when my son was putting in deer plots. Finally figured out I was running around 1500 RPM for short periods but he was running 2200 RPM for prolonged periods. I started working the 1700 harder and the problem disappeared.
