25 Acres worth buying hay equipment?

Re post 95, another possible market for wet hay is for hydroseeding on roadworks cuttings and subdivisions.

    Setting Fence Posts Issue

Furu, don't worry about the wood below the water level rotting, it won't. Wood will rot in the first 4" of ground where there is ready access to oxygen for the rot/fungi to breathe. In 30 years when the fence is replaced you will find the base of the post sound with a "collar" of rotted wood...

    loader float

Fred Saas, Mike 1955 is right. I forgot to say to plug the TRACTOR side of the curl line. Drain the cylinder side into the bucket. Good Luck.

Went from a Category 1 to Category 2 tractor. Now attachments won't fit

Hello Francis_Mulligan. See LouNY posts 18 and 32. There are 2 holes in the internal rod at the tractor end, and the threads at the impliment end are for fine adjust ment. I suggest you disconnect the tractor end and pull the end out to see exactly what you are dealing with. The end should...

    loader float

Mike1955, the loader bucket is "locked" in position by the hydraulic curl cylinders. Disconnecting the upper curl cylinder hoses will unlock the rams allowing them to retract and the loader bucket to rotate flat and then slide on the ground as to OP drags himself out with the backhoe. The...

Upgrading 4WD tractor tires, could use info on front to rear size ratios

Dunno, Tractor Tech jogged my memory, you may be able to source a set of floatation tyres from councils selling thier park mower tractors. Or from someone who has bought an ex parks tractor and retro fitted standard wheels.

    Small farm hay project?!

Hello KTGR. For hay gear, think about using a hay contractor for the first couple of years to get an idea of what is involved. If you still want your own gear, then start with a mower and use a contractor to rake and bale the hay. For a mower I reccomend you ignore a sickle bar and go to either...

    loader float

suggestion, disconnect the upper hoses on the curl rams and tie off into a bucket(to catch the oil as loader bucket rotates ) then use the backhoe to drag your self onto the grass. Then sort the trans issue, and the loader issue.

Upgrading 4WD tractor tires, could use info on front to rear size ratios

You will find there is a big difference between the premium tyre and budget tyre price. In my experience the higher the price, the better they last. ie Michelin is a 5000 hr contractors tyre while a budget tyre on the same work only lasted 3000 hrs. This was contracting with a high proportion...

Front suspension makes a difference. You are less tired at the end of the day, and it helps control on poor roads.

Upgrading 4WD tractor tires, could use info on front to rear size ratios

Hello Dunno, JD offer a factory wide tyre option, ask your ford dealer if there is a factory wide tyre option for your model. For your situation, as LouNY said, dual wheels, either duals all round, or duals at rear and custom wide tyre on the front. NOTE this option will mean you need a...

Help me save money on an addition.

Some food for thought: Concrete slab , DRAINAGE. I did not see any referance to the slope of the section. MAKE SURE you have the floor above the winter water table AND that the slope does NOT run water into the house. Fire Service tip: If you have a home entertainment system run multiple 10...

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

In New Zealand it is almost impossible to get fire insurance on a tractor due to the number that get burnt every year due to starlings. The favourite nest site is the exhaust manifold. You MUST pop the hood to stop starlings as they hate open space around the nest. NOTE a starling can build a...

The Life of a Custom Mowing contractor

Hay Dude, the dead grass will provide winter cover and shelter to wildlife. Also reason for mowing this late may be to stimulate spring growth. Some types of grass grow better if the dead grass is cut, so the argument goes. Is there much forest around there or is this feild on a wildlife...
