Ok boys, don't let me down! Two main gears inside speed increaser have slowed down!

It is a 540 (but can be configured to 1,000 PTO) Emailed a schematic with the very old part numbers.... for just the gear and pinion, she's telling me $3,079. I did that using my phone (I hate typing on phone) so I left off AND the four bearings, AND the gasket... So I asked her (in the...

    What is this tool...

I've played email tag with the gent. I'm trying to find time where I can maybe (with his permission) swing by there to assess all he has and see if some or all of it is interesting for me to buy. Says he's 40 years in diesel and heavy machinery fixing but says he's got something like 540...

I might add, it's item 26 and 27 that need replaced. Probably should (need?) to replace the bearings and since I'm in there, gaskets/seals, spacers and the pesky adapter (#30)

Ok boys, don't let me down! Two main gears inside speed increaser have slowed down!

Long story short: I've got a hydraulically operated 15' flexwing mower. Week or two ago, fired things up for spring.... mower is dead as a nail. Ascertained it was inside the speed increaser verses inside the pump itself, so just took apart earlier today. Confirmed, both the gear shaft and...

6x4 (I think it's called) side by side

My tractor has something like those that slow the PTO down when you disengage it. I didn't know how to describe them so thanks!! I wondered if it had those. @joecdeere I did send my email, I'll send again in case I did it wrong.

6x4 (I think it's called) side by side

Don't have one (yet). First goal was to simply get it running, otherwise, I'd gotten rid of machine and saved the expense. I have manual for my tractor, mower and backhoe.... The service manual for my (15' hydraulically powered flexwing) mower, doesn't even tell me what type, weight fluid to...

6x4 (I think it's called) side by side

Minor update.... went out and started it. My gut feel is it's idle speed is in the ballpark. (just going by sound) I DID however, look at the sprocket/flywheel, whatever it might be called that the belt goes around on the transmission.....and indeed, it was turning. (very carefully) I...

6x4 (I think it's called) side by side

A bit of an update with a question. I can only work on this on weekends and I won't if it's raining out.... so this has been a slow process. Tinkering today, I'll just cut to the chase... I got it started. As of yet, no new parts other than spark plugs and fuel line. I did a LOT of...

    What is this tool...

What is this tool and it's use? (I suppose the name will tell me it's use) Local diesel mechanic has a bunch of his tools listed and this caught my eye. (what caught my interest were the metric sockets which I've been looking to obtain) I might add, it appears to be what I'd call a crows...

6x4 (I think it's called) side by side

Have a JD. No doors, no rollbar, nothing, just two seats and a rear tilting deck. Bought from wife's cousin who lives next door so I know some of the history. (only paid couple hundred) One of those "used to work fine" but he got fedup with something, bought a new one. Issues: 1. One plug...

Really, really dumb question about difference between off road and on road diesel fuel.

20 years ago when I was (only slightly) dumber than I am now... The farm here was timbered. The guys doing the timbering were (in my mind) major jerks. They destroyed a lot of things supposed to be left behind as they drove their logging machinery around (far was selectively timbered)...

    Perhaps, a Dumb Question

Though I like the idea of taking a class..... my work has me on the road covering 13 counties. I simply don't have the time to take a class. One irony? (note that I help State & local Govt employees with their pensions & 401K's) One irony is, I cover about six different technical community...

    Perhaps, a Dumb Question

I got some stuff for gas welding. I don't have any kind of welder at all.... I've had need before to torch something and/or heat it.... so might get an Acy/O2 set of tanks to go with the stuff I acquired. Which brings me to my question. I've seen essentially two types of regulators (of...
