Can any one tell me if the gears on an mtd 990 about a early 70's model are hard to adjust or replace. When it starts and you put it in gear only 1st and sometimes 2nd gear works but 2nd seems more like 1st, now reverseis also is acting up. Any help would be great.:confused2:

i have an early model 990 (1970-72) i was mowing my yard yesterday and i had to fill the tank, i shut it off filled up and it would not start again. i checked the battery full charge, the engine will turn over but still will not start. ANY IDEAS!! Could it be the solinoid?:confused:

I see alot of people like to restore mtd 990's if anyone is intrested send me a private message i posted photo's, the belts need replacing,just check the photo's out

Hello everyone!! new member can anyone give me more info on my 990, i posted pictures of it. i live in south carolina and no one i talked to knows anything about it or how to work on it.
