Thanks guys, gives me hope! Yes I did do the 'twist test'. Nearly everything I tested broke after one or two twists, it was just some of the thicker stems that had that 'chewy' feel to them that took a lot more to break, but they were the exception rather than the rule.

I baled mixed pasture grass on Wednesday. It was green but nice and crispy, AgraTronix windrow tester said 17% but I did notice there were a degree of thicker, not so crisp stems in there. Today (Saturday) my AgraTronix temp/moisture probe is reading 98-102 degrees at the core and moisture...

If you sell a vehicle or piece of equipment for a substantial value (in this case, a truck for $50k) and it's a face to face private deal, how would you take payment? Cash? That's a lot of cash. Would you trust a personal check or even a certified check? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

I wasn't too sure at first but splitting larger logs, it's nice not having to lift them up onto a horizontal one. I just got myself a stool and sat there splitting away. I don't have a fire now though so it's redundant.

That's my biggest concern. A chain breaking was no big deal but bearings are another matter. I had a driven gear bearing go up in smoke year before last, scary stuff. If only they'd made them grease-able, they'd last forever at the speed they turn. (old NH)

Just changed all the chains on my baler last week. Bought some cutter parts, I'll do that when (if) it stops raining! No where near the level of maintenance you have to do though! Just built a 64x36 barn so plenty of new storage space too!
