I am replacing the glow plugs in my 254.
After removing the old plugs, I noticed the threads on the new plugs are shorter than the old plugs.
Is this an issue?
Thanks in advance.
Hey guys,
Need some advice/opinions on a IH 254.
I changed the front axle gear lubricant last summer.
85-140 per operators manual.
I used tractor all summer, fall and winter. No issues.
The other day I noticed some leakage coming from the top of the axle.
Is this some kind of vent or something...
Cool heads have finally prevailed and panic mode is over.....
After sitting for awhile the axle was not as full as I originally thought.
The overflowing out the fill holes was the result of trying to add too much too fast out of a gallon jug with a funnel.
i proceeded to add more to the fill...
I used 85-140.
Just using what owners manual specified.
I hope to have time on Tues to check level, since it's been sitting awhile.
I did put a gallon in but visually the volume of the oil I took out seems to be more than a gallon.
Not exactly sure how much more. Maybe 5 qts? maybe a little more.
BackRoad,
What you describe is what i envisioned happening.
All bottom plugs "in".
Both "level" plugs left "out".
It just that when I filled the 2 fill holes on top of the axle nothing came out of the "level" holes before the top fill holes overflowed.
Strange......
Today i am changing the gear oil in my IH 254.
Following the directions, I removed the (3)drain plugs (diff and (1)ea side), (2)oil level plugs (1 ea side) and (2)fill plugs (top of axle) and drained all the oil.
I reinstalled (3) drain plugs and was adding new oil thinking I would add oil until...
IH254 with 1160 hours.
I am looking to change the front axle oil.
Manual calls for 85W-140, but doesn't say how much.
Does anyone know how much is needed to fill?
My best guess is maybe 1.5 gallons. Just a visual guess......
I just want to make one trip to parts store.
Thanks.
Looking for a radiator cap for an IH 254 (mid 80's).
I see them priced online at $100 + .
Is there something special about these caps that make them so pricey?
Does anyone know of an aftermarket manufacturer priced a little more reasonable?
Thanks!
Newbie here.
I am looking for a rear replacement rim for my IH 254.
All the rims I see online have 4 "loops" to attach.
The rusted rim that I am replacing has 4 "z" clips to attach.
Is there a way to get the loop type rim to work or do I need to buy a rim, remove the loops and weld on the z...
