For me, DEF has a positive non emissions use. I regularly buy outdated DEF in IBC totes from various outfits around here and I spray it... -

You really only see issues on LS units. Rarely if ever from the other brands

Git some chickens. Let them free roam. Thay will feast on the ticks as well as spiders and other bugs.

The taper on most tractor tie rod ends is short and yes, wacking the side of the casting also works but a sharp wack on the threaded end...
