My best guess is that the store had no idea that a customer had scammed them, the box appeared new and neither you or the store personnel who put it back on the shelf had reason to look further. Big Box stores are notorious for this kind of fraudulent activity. I'm really sorry this happened...
With all due respect, there was no way to know the picture that you provided was taken 40 feet in the air. You were out marking trees - which is more likely walking the property and not in a helicopter. The natural assumption would be it was taken near the ground.

I have removed about 90 stumps since buying my TLB. I did not "work out" any stumps with the loader, and can't imagine doing so. Mostly I used my backhoe and chainsaw. You can deform a bucket very easily using it for unintended applications - like working tree stumps.
