    Drawbar towing.

I’ve used those to line up 5/8” holes in receiver hitch implements (tractor, not on-road)—works great I’m sure you could get a 1” hole with one, but I’d worry about thinning the drawbar and making a weak spot. I tend to be (overly) cautious about drilling or welding stuff that can cause damage...

    A few (probably) dumb questions.

Bent up the dealer installed PTO shaft on the 3 pt cause it was cut too short I mowed my neighbors vineyard which got overgrown with 1” elm saplings and a bunch of brush. Medium duty 5’ brush hog was fine as long as I kept it in 1 st gear. Made 2 passes at different heights Did have trouble...

    Drawbar towing.

If it were mine, I wouldn’t drill it out. The metal is going to get pretty narrow and strength tends to fall off with sorta the cube of the thickness. Not sure about that particular bit of metal, but a lot of weight bearing stuff on tractors is high strength steel. Even if it wasn’t hardened to...

    Drawbar towing.

Man, am I glad you brought that up. Prolly saved me a mess. I haul a trailer with grapes in 1/2 ton bins on it in harvest season. The way the bins load onto it, you’re guaranteed to have quite a bit of tongue weight. UNLESS the picking crew loads the rear one full first. I tell them to load them...

    You "Road" Your Tractor?

I have a little Mahindra 26hp that’s narrow enough to get down my vineyard rows. Once a year I put 2000 lb of grapes on a trailer and haul a couple of loads to the fruit broker. Only 4 miles each way and I go slow—still usually need to have three fillings and a kidney replaced by the end of the...

Good point! I know the ag extension folks pretty well. Sent them an email offering up my plot for experiments. “All they can say is no”!

Good advice! On my first arc welding adventure, I was using a 1970’s vintage 220 amp AC box that my neighbor lent me and 7018 from Harbor Freight ‘cause I’d watched YouTube videos. Got a bead one start out of 20. And it doesn’t come off easy if you stick it Back to HF for 1/8” 6013 and 6011...

I was thinking they didnt need to roll, just plow(?). The absolutely brilliant part of this is the multiple adjustment directions & precision built into the dish mount. My contraption is a pain to adjust One of those dish mounts would be perfect for my summer finger weeder!

I “improved” my design by angling the hiller discs 20 degrees to the sky. Expanded my metalworking skills making new disc brackets out of 6” x 3/8 bar stock. $28 Harbor Fright carbide blade for steel cut it like butter. Put in 220v outlet for my $75 Amazon inverter stick welder and ran 1/8” 7018...

I appreciate the ideas! Gotta look into the terrace machine The idea of hilling grafted grapes it to keep the graft union warmer in the winter to prevent freeze damage. But if you leave the hills up over the summer, the top fruit bearing part of the vine (scion) will put out it’s own roots...

Welder / Wiring for Small Garage

I’m surrounded by opportunities :) I have the AC welder, a DC inverter stick welder, and an oxy-acetylene rig. Gave my MIG/argon welder to my son in law cause I didn’t use it much with all the other options. The AC welder will do 220 amps if I need it for really thick stuff, which my inverter...

Would be nice, particularly with balanced draft to make steering easier. But the row to row spacing isn’t consistent enough Rows are laid out pretty straight on 8’ centers, but vines have trunks +/- 6” to either side. They have a mind of their own after a few years of pruning out old wood Not...

Welder / Wiring for Small Garage

This particular Lincoln 50 amp welder has a 20% duty cyle. The instructions below say to use 10 ga wire with a 50 amp breaker. I looked at section 630 of the NEC, and that’s allowed because of the arc welder duty cycle adjustment. Would be a disaster waiting to happen if an EV got plugged into...
