I am a new member, and also the new owner of a tractor that I don't seem to be able to identify. It is definitely a Ford, but I would like to know the specific model. I am led to believe it is a 4110, but I've searched many websites trying to link the serial and model numbers to a tractor model, all in vain. I hope there is someone on this site that may be able to shed some light on the specifics about this tractor:

Serial # C714304
Model # CA4140
Unit # 3M06B

Is this an agricultural model? What model was it? What year of manufacture? How can I decode the model number listed above?

It would seem that your tractor may be a Ford 3000 series built in Dec. of '73. I'm no expert, but could the serial no start out C11... instead of C71...? I'm including a link to a page with some helpful info. This page indicates that if your tractor was a 4000 series, it's serial number would start with a "D" instead of a "C". If the tractor was built after '75 these codes may be completely bogus.

I had already had a look at the page you sent the link to, but it seems to apply only to pre-1975 models. The 4110 is supposed to be a 1983 model, and fom other sources the unit # seems to indicate it was built in the morning of 12/06/1983.

The model # however is what intrigues me since I can find no reference to the CA-code, the first two letters of the model number.

Yeah, I looked at another page on Tractordata.com and found serial numbers starting in "C" for 4000 models. Sorry if I sent you on a wild goose chase. The CA threw me for a loop too. If we were talking computers, I'd say the "A" was maybe a hexadecimal notation equal to 10, but that'd sure be a stretch to think that was true for tractors.

I received some friendly assistance from New Holland customer service in decoding the numbers. The serial number indicates the unit was built in Romeo (the "C") and is a 3910 model. The model number shows a "C" for 3000 series, "A" for agricultural, "4" for utility, "1" for diesel, "4" for 540 PTO, and "C" (not "0") for 8-spd transmission. The unit code is nearly correct in that the unit was built December 07, 1983 according to the data retrieved from the serial number. So it looks like I had a 3910 and not a 4110!

What would be a good price (buying) a 1983 model 3910 with less than 1,000 hours, new tires and no attachments?
