I was thinking about purchaseing a Mr. Funnel AF3CB Fuel Filter funnel . Looks in theory like good longterm pm insurance to help and aid in fuelin truck , equipment , portable generator ETC .

Anyone use Mr Funnel ? Care to comment on the good /bads or uglys ? They seem to get good reviews , doesn't seem like snakeoil . Do you have one just for gas / diesel ? Or do you use one provideing its wiped off and clean for both applications ? If you take care of it and not treat it like a caveman how long do they last ? Just wondered .

been using one for 12+ yrs no issues at all, as advertised. after use, there's 1 or 2 oz residual fuel due to design. your choice on how to handle that
but in terms or water/particulate filtration, excellent. i fill by hand using 5 gal containers, so not sure how the flow volume works when pumped. but for me, a worthwhile purchase.
of course the key is to purchase diesel from a reliable high volume dealer to start with good luck
btw don't recommend using one for both gas and diesel since residual fluid remains in funnel after use. just get 2

I have 2 of the F3 models & really like them... have had them for at least 6yrs... I use them for both gas & diesel. The filters are super fine mesh & do a really good job of keeping partials out. Basically if the fuel is in a can it goes through the F3 funnel when filling a piece of equipment.

I can fill the tractor with a spout-less 5gal can & pour just about as fast as I want & the funnel keeps up.

Have run water lodged gas that was in an equipment tank through it with good results (about 16gals)... definitely a slower process but worked well enough at removing the water that we reused the fuel after words by mixing it with some fresh gas.

Cons:
- They are not inexpensive funnels....
- Fuel additives and stabilizers may allow water to pass through filter. They say to "Add additives directly to tank". Which I do not do I pretreat all my gas & diesel when I'm purchasing it & I never have had a problem or worried about it...
- I wish they came with a top cover & a bottom boot... I know they say you don't need them but I would like them to keep it cleaner
- I wish all models had a pour spout on top for when you "dump the sump". Mine goes back in to the container it was just poured from to be filtered next time (unless I know it's bad)

Would I buy again... yes

Used one. Slows down refueling. Don't think necessary. Since 1978 running diesels, have never had a water problem. Had fuel filter plugging once due to veggie diesel use for a couple tankfuls. Had wax globs drop out of solution and mostly plug outlet of the tank. Had gel formation on fuel filter after starting at -22 F (but stopped being a problem after engine block warmed up the fuel filter). No water problems.

I have had a Mr. Funnel for a year, this is my first diesel and I figured an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. As mentioned, it slows the fueling process, but I top off frequently to minimize condensation in the tank.

I would not be without one, even though I treat all my fuel when I put it in the cans and purchase from a station that has good turn over of product but I have gotten some water and the funnel caught it. The only thing I do wish the funnel had is some kind of shutoff or indicator to let you know when the tank is full as I have over flowed the fuel tank on more than one occasion.

Does anyone make a filter like this with a lid? I worry about dust and grit getting in the filter when it's not in use.

I bought one of those about 20 to 25 years ago. Mine is bright yellow. Used it for a year or so. Never even once did I trap any water or crud. Quit using it 20 to 25 years ago. Just really slows down refueling and can be the cause of a real mess( spilled fuel ). As a matter of fact - it's still out in the shed - collecting dust and cob webs.

"Dust & grit getting in the filter when not in use" Turn it up side down on a hard surface - throw a clean shop rag over it.

If you find that you really need one of these funnels - look for the source of the problem. Not a band aid to cure it.

When I use my Mr Funnel, I take it from filler and place in a Maxwell House Instant coffee jar. Fits perfectly and can drip as long as it wants. I also found a plastic lid similar to the ones on margarine tubs and place it on top of filter. Works for me, no muss no fuss. If there's any water in fuel you'll see it separate in the jar.

Last thing I need is another thing to dink around with. Fuel that is going to sit for a few months gets treated so this would not work if i have to treat fuel in the tank.

Fuel stored in sealed containers and treated has never given me a problem. I am 70. Been fueling stuff for a while. Had to rebuild one carb on a blower I bought used. Te previous owner had left fuel in it for a LONG time. Unit was so old the fuel hose was deteriorated. If he had run the gas out of it, it would likely habe worked.
