Is Chili's #1 on his list? I have never eaten there but have heard bad things about it; both online and from people who have been there.
Nope. Ours seems to be OK for now. The service is slow here, though, due to labor shortage.

We used to eat at Chili's quite a bit before we moved. Never had a problem at the different restaurants we would visit. Have not been to a Chili's in years though simply because there is not one near where we live. Do miss it though because they had food we liked.

I used to get sent to school for a week at a time just north of Boston every few years. My hotel had a Chili's just around the parking lot. I'd place a carry out order of something different every night. Got to like it pretty well.

We would do quite a bit of take out from Chilis, sometimes a couple of times a week. At work we would often go to Chilis too but that was many, many years ago. The food was really good and they got it on the table fast. :D

I have a sibling that just started chemo last week. Mentioned no appetite. I'll have to run that one by them. Thanks. (y)

On another note, my wife and I met while we were both working at Dairy Queen in 1977. ;)

As for watching where you eat, my wife's friend is a fire department inspector. One of his duties is to inspect the local restaurant kitchens. While he cannot comment too much on the taste of the foods, he can tell us which places are filthy and should be avoided!
I installed alarm systems years ago. The company I worked for handled the majority of restaraunts in town.

I couldn't speak to the cleanliness of the kitchen to anyone. But my buddy figured out really quickly to follow my lead when eating out with friends.

If I just ordered a bottle of beer and no food, then he knew not to eat there and would just order a bottle of beer.

I did have to explain to him on a couple of occasions that I had eaten a big meal begore coming out, and he was perfectly fine ordering anything off the menu

That's about 90% of the restaraunts in my area. Long waits to get in and only seating at half capacity due to lack of staff.

My favorite restaraunt for breakfast quit opening on the weekends because they couldn't get anyone to work

I think this is the new normal due to demographic shifts. There just are not enough people to do the work anymore. This was slowly happening prior to the pandemic but the pandemic simply increased the process.

A couple of coworkers posted photos of robots at restaurants. Some of the robots were in use local to me, some in a different part of the state, and one was overseas....

We have about 3% unemployment around here. Waiting tables is hard work. On your feet a lot and moving. Weekends and evenings. Who'd want to do it?

You left out dealing with customers. Some can be rather obnoxious.
OTOH waitressing can be a lucrative way for a woman in particular to make good tips, if the restaurant is decent.

Way back when I was a kid in high school, I worked part time at the Manners Big Boy a mile from home (Lived in Cleveland) and cooked for them and if I told you the tings we (and me) did to the food, you'd never eat fast food again. If the meat patty fell on the floor for instance, it got put back on the grill, for one.

Place was real popular too. The patrons never knew what we did to the food. Ignorance is bliss, I guess.

Good point, and one that seems to be lost on the "nobody wants to work anymore" crowd. Between boomers retiring, and the low birthrates of the last several decades as you noted we're feeling the pinch. With so many job openings going begging, hard to blame young people for passing up crappy jobs that don't pay very well.

I've heard of robots in restaurants, but all I've seen is a couple of touchscreen ordering stations at McDonalds.

Haven't you ever seen the drink robot at McDonalds working behind the counter and at the drive-through? That's been around for a long time.
