No, it was a couple of years ago.
My fault that it ended up being a somewhat fast drive. Started a bit too late, so the place was closed by the time I got there. Had planned on loading the machine that day, then drive as far back as possible that night.
Instead, spent the night at the yard, then got the paperwork done and the machine loaded in the morning. Now a late start for the return trip, too.
As I recall, for the most part the speed limit on U.S. 50 was 60 mph, so I did about 30% over. On the 150 or so miles of I-70 I did the speed limit (80). For the remaining 300 miles or so it's 2-lane again.
Don't remember what time I got home, but it was definitely well after dinner. And it would've been quite a bit later had I obeyed the speed limits.

Insane - is an opinion, but...
According to the law, driving above the posted limit is illegal.
It's also dangerous, reckless and quite often lethal.

Oh, now you tell me.
Wish I'd known that when comparing 60-120s (707 vs. 797 hp) with a cop driving the other car...on a road with a 55 mph limit.
Thankfully, around here not even the cops are playing cop. Live and let live.

I was racing this beautiful black mustang down I-26 in SC.. speed limit was 60 & we were both doing 80, side by side..
I looked over at him and we were both grinning from ear to ear..
Then all of a sudden he reaches up to his shoulder and pulls down a concealment patch… he was FBI.!!!
I hit CANCEL on that cruise control so fast I gave myself whiplash.!!!

The dynamics of these on/off ramps from the QEW have changed in the last almost 50 years.
It's now 3 lanes and more gradual curves and lit up like a summer's day.
We'd had a couple brown pops and decided to go from St Catharines to Niagara Falls to cruise the Lane (Lundy's).
Turned to the on ramp which was long and gradual. Put her to the boards listening to the dual exhaust and 4 barrel do their thing.
The end of the on ramp was kind of dark and sudden. I knew that and was ready as I shot out onto the highway. What I wasn't ready for was the cruiser sitting in that dark area.
He must have heard us coming as before I even fully passed him the lights came on.
I had the advantage of speed and he had to catch me.
Took the next exit at speed. It hasn't changed that much. Under the overpass bridge and a hard right turn that takes you 180 degrees back in the direction you came from.
Going around I could feel the rear end threatening to swing out.
As you came out of the turn on the opposite side was a service station at the intersection.
I knew the place and drove in at speed and pulled to the back of the building where there were a bunch of other cars there for service. Shut off the lights and engine in the semi dark.
I had been far enough ahead that the cop hadn't seen that maneuver.
He drove by slowly looking and quickly a couple more cruisers came by looking.
Maybe it just sounded louder in the car but if the cop had listened he would have found us. As the car cooled you could hear the exhaust pinging. From our position it might as well been a major thunder storm.
We were ducked down hiding behind the dash and saw the flashing lights go by numerous times.
We hid out until daybreak, about 5 hours, before daring to leave.
Went a couple back streets and got away with it.
Next day I had a cruiser on my a-s for a while but he never pulled me over.
Time before cameras recording everything.
Didn't give him any cause to pull me over.
Tex, the friend who had been with me died in a high speed crash less than a year later.
They figured he was over a 100mph when he went in and along a ditch in a gradual dip and curve.
The car hit the culvert for the street that came out there.
Hitting the culvert his car launched up and across the street. It hit the telephone pole on he other side snapping it off more than half way up.
Somewhere in that moment he was thrown from the car hit the pavement and slid over a 100 feet before ending up in the opposite ditch. His upper body, head/shoulders were mostly erased by the pavement.
The local fire department tried to wash the stain out of the pavement but it was visible for easily a year.

In this state, racing on the street is immediate 6 months suspension of license, extra coursework to get it back, and some pretty insane insurance rate penalties. I got caught doing that about 25 years ago, which cured me of that desire, real quick.
