If it can live a long life as a diesel with the increased compression required, for gas use reliability- the engine is already overbuilt.
A gas version, due to its lower thermal efficiency, will put a greater thermal load on the engines heads, at the same power output.

I get a kick out of how Yota Tundra owners refer to them as 'beasts'. Those are in my view, toy trucks and not much else. I could put one in the back of my Ford F350 4x4 and it wouldn't even engage the helper springs. Never be a yapanese truck on this farm, ever. I require a real truck, not a poser.

I have a couple F450s and a couple F150s and a Raptor 150.. As well as the 24 Tundra. The Toyota is very nice to drive.. extremely comfortable and the turbo motor is more than adequate..similar to the 3.5 eboost. For me it's a work truck in and out of the city several times a week.
Although they have some issues, they are a pretty nice rig

If I remember correctly, didn't Yota have an issue a while back (like maybe 10 years ago) with their engines then? Weren't they sludging up and failing back then as well? I see to remember that a ways back??

The O)NLY reason that automakers are getting away from 'real' engines and building those small displacement engines and then adding turbocharging and the like is, they all want to meet the CAFE mileage standards

Me, I prefer displacement over tiny engines, always have and I can well afford the cost of fuel and don't really care what it costs. Neither does my wife, probably why she bought a Suburban where even the base engine is a V8

Not saying I'm not guilty of owning a vehicle with a small engine, I do, but at least I can admit my Ford Focus RS is small and it's certainly not a roomy or capable hauler.

It's a go fast fun car and that is about it.

Last Yoya I owned was an FJ Landcruiser way back in the 60's and it rusted out before it was paid off...

don't remember the sludge issue recall. the mid 90's v6 on the T100 & Tacomas had a huge defective head gasket recall. thankfully i purchased the 4 banger @ 330k original engine miles today (purchased new '92)
say what you will re: japanese trucks of that era, sure glad to have one still in top shape rather than taking out a 2nd mortgage for the living room sized domestic pick ups these days with multiple sensors waiting to go out. to each his own ride, regards

I always liked the T100, and I couldn't tell you why. I was a kid in the 90's, I wasn't driving; maybe it was the commercials?

No matter, the thing holds a soft spot in my heart. 🍻

Care to post a picture?

thanks for note. the T100 was a Lexus design V6, Tacomas had both 4 & 6 cyl...both came out in the mid 90's. my rig is the 4cyl 4x4 22re prior to the Tacoma. i would never consider new today as the cab/bench seat long bed models are long gone. mine was a 10 month special order from jdm factory 7' long bed

the following T100 image i pulled off the net, the 2nd is my own rig. only the seals have been replaced on the engine 330k

The earlier V8 Tundra motor was virtually bullet proof.. lots of 250-300k mile examples out there.

Toyota did have a fairly significant issue with rotted frames in Tacomas and 4 Runners.. the manufacturer did step up and either buy vehicles back or replace frames and other components related to such depending on what the owner wanted. .. and this was on 10+ year old vehicles… significantly out of warranty.. Thats a pretty strong good faith repair / remedy on their part.

The first image is what I remember, but your truck is gorgeous in it's own right- and it hides that 330k for sure. I admire the simplicity.

On the other hand, I couldn't fit in your truck.
