Small house, small stove. Only takes 16". I found the saw body including the handle is 16". I have a Husky 455. It's a little extra twist, but when I buck at the wood lot, not big deal. Before that I would sometimes use my arm, it's about 16" from my elbow to my pinky knuckle. If the last piece is a little long I just throw it in a different pile and those go into the outdoor brick oven. I've also painted a mark on my splitter at 16" just to ensure when I'm splitting rounds the splits end up in the right pile.

Cleaned out the woodstove for the season, firebox charged ready to go. Brought down wood from the shed to filll wood rack. Something comforting to have next season ready to go. We only burn about two wood racks per year now. Minisplit can easily and economically heat most of the winter. With 4year seasoned bone dry oak with the bark removed is more energy dense and only made about 3/4 ash pan full for the entire season.

Agreed! The floor is stunning...
Thanks. We use to get scrap Tennessee marble from the quarry, all you could load on a pickup truck for $5. 1-1.5” thick. Mortar joints have some dog prints from best friends long ago. Durable floor for a farm log house.

Good pile of birch Hoobie. I have a lot of that in the woods to. I do the same as you. I put it in the front and back row of the wood shed. Your beech is all scabby like ours too.

When I was a kid the woodlot was full of beautiful almost disease free beech. In my life the disease worsened but the trees hung on. But 25 years ago or so they finally started to die. Most of the big ones are gone now with many sucker saplings replacing them. They are diseased too.
This started in Nova Scotia about 1900 and spread north and west into Quebec and Maine then west. I suspect we have had it longer than you. Are your trees still alive for the most part or dying and dead like here Gordon.

Most get up to 6" or 8" then they die. Very few get 14" or 16" before they die. Like this one. Good firewood !!

But I have one that is 27" and the top still looks good - no yellow leaves or dead branches. No idea how old.

Just one though. I keep looking for some root sprout or seedling clones that are equally as resistant but all the younger or smaller trees in the area are infected and heavily scabbed up ??

We've taken a week to hike in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for the last 6 or 7 years. Of course as a NP, the trees have been protected for almost 100 years.

Nevertheless, there are still some seriously large Beech in those woods in Tennessee!

^^^^ Yes, It is a whole different world down there, and even where you are in PA, tree size wise. Do you know if they have BBD down there yet ??
