OP solved the problem by page 5, now up to page 11.
My only thought is, I'm amazed how many people are saying "Pull on it"
and/or "Hammer on it".
FYI, there are ball or roller bearings, among other components, inside the case that don't respond
well to shock loads. A puller that pulls on the yoke and pushes on the end of the PTO shaft is the
only smart way to get the yoke off without possibly causing more problems.
Hammering the yoke on was the first mistake. Glad it worked out.
Yes, a great way to cause oil leaks as well as expensive damage to repair.
A bit of grease on the shaft and yoke works really well for me. If I can't lever off a stuck pto with a big screwdriver, it is time to go to plan B which doesn't include brute force or a hammer.
It is amazing how many PTO mount/unmount problems were solved when I started greasing the PTO stub shaft and yoke receiver before attaching things.
