In 1950 a neighbor had an autonomous reel-mower with a gas engine. It was self-propelled.
He drove a stake in his backyard through the center of a tire rim, tied a rope to it and the mower frame.
He'd start the engine, then sit on his backporch drinking beer, and watch the mower run in circles until it got near the stake
He'd move the stake and begin all over again.
At 8, I thought that was really neat.

Here's what this looks like now. Can plant, move logs, do tillage, etc. and let the robot keep the mowing work clean always.

What is the mowing height? It looks a bit high.

Also, does it sense a heavy load on the mower? Does it automatically slow down in thick grass?

2 to about 10 inches. Not mowing low here because the work being done is cutting brush cows don't eat!

another video of one running

In that video it is running with sling blades (similar to a bushhog) so the cut is not as pristine as one might see with a fixed blade, but it is able to take rock hits and do up to about 2 inch thick brush.

I wonder what accuracy that mower would hold? I'd be interested if I could afford it, to mow my U-Pick with lots of rows of bushes, trees etc.
