The trouble with letting your saw shop do it is that they almost always put the least experienced peon in the shop on that job. The work usually varies between questionable and downright bad, like receiving back almost-new chains with half of their life ground away.

A few years ago took an almost new chain to a shop that had just opened recently to get sharpened. 16 inch chain, owner says $1/inch. My reply was," Are you kidding". He stated take it or leave it. I left with my chain, came home and ordered new chains on sale at Amazon for $3 less than he wanted to sharpen . That guy was closed within 3 months

Today I cleaned up everything, then fixed the 250ft trench dragging it left. I sharpened blade and lowered the rake teeth a bit & it cut well.

Way back, about midway through a previous century, my job was to keep a sharp, fueled, lubed, and property tensioned saw ready to go for when the saw Dad was currently using was out of fuel (and split & load rounds on the truck). I gave him a saw that wasn't properly sharpened one time. It never happened again.

Yeah, probably for some.

This guy I have been dealing with for a good long time. The only thing I need from him is a chain saw one day. LOL. He even did some push mower maintenance for me. A good guy with a very highly rated business.

A rare find these days.

just last week our electric utility came onto my property and cut all trees within 15 ft of the power lines. its ok by me, i wouldnt want a tree to fall on lines. they limbed them all up and left the wood on my side of the fence. they took all the branches. i now have 3-4 years of firewood.......

man, theres a lot of trees to process.

had to purchase a grapple to haul the stuff.

here, no one cares if a tree hits fence, the owner just cuts and moves the junk.
Yeah it sucks when trees fall on lines, we all know that.

Couple of years ago, a red pine in my front yard fell and took out the lines to my neighbors house, ripped the tower off his roof and jacked up his power to the box.

I just told him to give me the bill for the electric company to fix him up. I also cleared the complete tree on his property.

He never did give me a bill, he just covered it. We always got along so that helped. Too bad they are moving.

That was split some time ago and rotted down into the split. That other half will probably come down soon, hopefully falling on him.

I thought about removing a spruce earlier this year, but didn't because I didn't see any problems with it. About a month later, a strong wind revealed that there was a rotted spot like that one in one of the crotches at the top I didn't see.

Fortunately, the limb fell out into my garden area and not on top of the parked car on the other side.

Looking at what was left in the daylight the next day, that caused a further split that looked to run another 8-10' down the trunk.

I cut the whole thing. No neighbors were involved.

Good Afternoon Winterdeere,

Agreed, I generally sharpen my chains by hand with a round file and when they get really bad I just buy a new one. 😉
