Northway up past Albany isn't bad, less traffic up that way. But you're right, the Thruway is a different story. Or worse, go out I-17 doing 60mph and then BAM, traffic light!!
I'd make that not real bad once you get north of Glens Falls, I hate Saratoga in the summer.

I got my new trailer down in Cairo, went down using the interstate, came home using rt 32 instead of the highway.

The new used splitter is working well. I got this...

Turned into this... No more splitting until fall.

Now I need to figure out what to do with this pile. One of the advantages of splitting by hand is the pile is much smaller when I'm ready to call it quits for a bit, LOL.

A local tree guy gave me a call on Sunday, said he did a couple tree jobs across the street from each other about 10 minutes away from my house. He was taking down about 20 trees, more wood than he wanted and asked if I was interested. And when he said he would deliver in the dump trailer, of course the answer is YES! So my nights will be spent moving it all to a staging area to dry a bit.
Here's my view for the next week or so:

That's one load Sunday night so I could show him where to put it, and 3 loads yesterday, not sure how many he's got, but I'll take it all. So far most looks to be Maple, but I did see some Shagbark Hickory in the first load. I've got the 3PT forks chained to the bucket for now, but have been gathering parts to put a quick attach on the machine. That will save weight, increase visibility, & move the logs closer to the machine.
This stuff is green so once it dries a bit, maybe around September, I will buck it up and split it for winter 2026-2027.

Why wait? Just curious...
A couple reasons:
-the Maple is very green and the hickory is very heavy, I just don't want to lift it when it's this wet.
- no rush since I won't be burning it this winter anyway
-keep my crates open for this winters wood, if I split it, it's going in crates, not on the ground just to be picked up later.
- it's getting hot outside, and the black flies are annoying!
But if there's a cool weekend day, I may start on it here and there.

It won't do much drying when it's in long log form. Getting it bucked will help it start drying more quickly, even if you don't split it yet.

I hear ya! Yes it's not as effective as bucking it up, but the pieces are 6' to 8' long only, and every little bit helps. It was 84°F yesterday, too hot for me to be bucking logs. I still have to move the rest from down by the road up to the house, which will likely take thru Sunday. We'll see what evenings next week bring, if it's not in the 80s, then maybe I'll tear into the pile.

We have a frost warning here in the Champlain Valley of Vermont for tonight and into Thursday. Perfect weather for working in the woods. Unfortunately I’m all booked up with other commitments

Yep, looking to be a tad nippy tonight. No frost warning for us, but down to 34F.

Here’s mine with some oak. We had five trees taken down because they were too close to the house three we knew were rotting/hollow one weren’t certain of but it was rotting inside, but the biggest one +32” was NOT rotting in the base, but there was some slight rotting in a crotch.

These are water oak trees so sure what they weigh, but red oak is about 351 pounds per foot when dia equals 32”. Based on that the last picture is about 2800 pounds and I could just curl it but not enough cause dragged on the way there.
