Today's project was to take a big oak down. Anymore I don't do those big ones alone, so today my "tree surgeon" buddy showed up and as he owed me a favor, we decided to get R done!

First thing was to use a line to pull heavy rope up and hook my winch line to it, to pull all the dead hangers down,

With all of those down, we cut some smaller dead trees down too to make some room and then put my wire rope high up around the tree and started pulling/cutting,

and I winched it over,

I did cut a chunk off to drop at the splitting yard, on the way home,

There's a HUGE amount of firewood in that tree and I'll deal with the rest of it, later!

I'm highly allergic! Here's a great tip that works & hope to help anyone allergic to poison ivy.
Find Jewel Weed also known as Touch-Me-Not. It only grows along creeks or ponds. It blooms in early Fall. That's when you pick leaves, stalks & flowers...a bag full. Put it in a sauce pan with some water on oven burner. Cook it down until it's like dark tea. When cool pour this in a jar, put in refrigerator.
When you get poison ivy rash pour some in a saucer. Fold a paper towel until about 3" to 4" square, soak & hold it over affected area.
Once you recognize Jewel Weed you can use some leaves now, it's not as strong but it works. Great for bee stings, crush leaves up with some mud & hold over sting...pain disappears.
Carry dish detergent (Dawn) & water with you & if you know you touched it, wash IMMEDIATELY.
You'll thank me later.

Never made my own "tea" from it but the local hardware store sells a natural soap with jewel weed in it. Works wonders and great for washing after contact as well. I also carry a spray bottle with a very high concentration of dawn and water when I go cut. I spray everything right after and then wash well when I get home. Best trick I have found.

I've rarely been in poison ivy territory but I'm embedded in its cousin's, poison oak, land; during my land clearing I regularly encounter similarly afflicted trees with p.o trunks over an inch in diameter.

I've gotten poison ivy once when in another state (there's very little of it in California) because while I pretty much reflexively identify p.o, p.i doesn't trigger the same match and I wasn't looking for it!

I find that having a decent beard, head covering (I usually just wear a bandanna which comes down to my eyebrows unless it's cold out) and eye protection keeps accidental face-whips from afflicting my face, but I'm no longer badly sensitive as I was a couple decades ago.

Get into some wild parsnips and you will be wishing you ran naked through poison ivy instead. I didn't even know about it until I got it
