Sometimes it is fun to revisit old threads

A couple of days ago I was trying to decide what to run for oil in my 1956 (?) TO35, and found an interesting discussion from 2012 between member Ultrarunner, and retired member Soundguy.
I'm still waffling whether to run detergent or nondetergent, as they both raised good points.

As would be expected from each of them.

Watch “My Little Chickadee” with W.C. Fields and Mae West. Saw it yesterday for the first time. Funny! And clever dialogue. It’s been restored and remastered so quality is great. Made in 1940. Time well spent!

You can get a straight 30W SL rated oil at Walmart and other places these days that specifically has higher quantities of ZDDP for older gas tractors and old car engines. Modern oils exclude these additives that prevent valve guide wear. You can search for old threads on TBN for this.

Also, you need to know NOT to use ethanol-blend and/or whatever that gas/oxygenator fuel Maine uses, in your tractor. Leaded aviation fuel is best but too expensive. Next best is no-ethanol gas with a lead substitute additive.

I ran detergent oil in 8N's, 9N's and Farmall tractors for decades with no issues. If an engine has poured babbitt bearings they say non-detergent is best.

We just finished watching the complete "Revolution" TV series. Great series but we completely forgot that one of the main actors in season two is/was an accused real life pedophile...
