Bill of sale from dealer

Yeah I would need a receipt with the serial # on it.

We are talking business here not trading pocket knives. In the event (hypothetically), you have to prove ownership, your paperwork better identify your item, be it a tractor or a Rolex, than just state red tractor or gold watch.
You are being overly dramatic.
That’s done with a bill of sale for heavens sake.

The man said he received an unsigned receipt, not a bill of sale. There is a difference.

Receipt for payment. You don’t need a signature there. That you have the receipt is proof you paid plus your cancelled check and or credit card report
He already had the purchase agreement.
You obviously do not know tractor sales procedure so yes, overly dramatic.

You do not need a receipt with a serial number.
That is on your bill of sale and or financials.
A receipt is proof of payment and that is all.
As several here are doing, you are confusing paperwork.

He has not said anything about receiving a purchase agreement or bill of sale so I took that to mean the unsigned recept is all he has.

He had to have had an agreement to acquire the tractor in the first place. He came in to pay for the rest of the tractor at a later date . He received a receipt at that time.
How do you think the company would keep track of what they’re selling without paper work, factory warranty or customer record?

You are taking a lot of things for granted that have not been disclosed. In a business deal nothing should be taken for granted. The days of a handshake and a man's good word are long gone. Buyer beware.

It is obvious you and Kenhar have little understanding of what it takes for a company to do business.
Your scenario infers some guy walked into a tractor dealership, stated “I’d like to buy that tractor”, then left the dealership and went back to pay for said tractor and was simply given a receipt of payment.
Really?
You think this company has no idea who bought one of their tractors?
