Here's my advice to the OP would be to choose a quiet time when you can both sit down and say "I have something very important to discuss with you", and no raised voices, polite each speaking in turn without interruption.
I would have phones turned off, etc.
This is troubling:

You need a common interest. You're a fantastic photographer so wouldn't it be great if your lady also liked photography or at least with you taking pictures.
The spark and the binding of two people is doing things together.

We're about 10 days short of 35 years.

The trade off for me was that she's smart, so was able to earn well and make sure we could retire early. Retirement was probably the thing we agreed on the most (when, where and how).

Without the kind, i probably wouldn't have made it.My faith also helps as divorce is a spiritual dead end.

I guess I don’t understand how people think living together is different than marriage unless the “commitment” scares them and they think the problems are different without that commitment.

Communication is the difficult key to making a relationship work especially since women are Venus and men from Uranus.

Olnslo, I think you're exactly right. I've been with my unmarried partner for over 28 years. Every day is better than the day before.

We've both have been married, each unsuccessfully twice. I spent 25 years with my first wife, being unhappy 95% of the time. The second marriage for 3 months! Two tries for us each is enough. Third try without that magic piece of paper seems to be the right answer.

Communication is vital, as is common courtesy. Every thing we each do for each other is followed with a 'Thank You'; and truly a sincere appreciation.
We both fail to see where a legal piece of paper would make either of us more happy. We had, and have, our own reasons for not getting married, and those reasons are competely respected by the other. Committment is and has always been 100%.

We may get a legal status one day. Or maybe not. That's not on top of our To Do list. Making each other happy happens to be...

I have dated dumb as a stump women, and I have dated super intelligent women. I married one that was middle of the road. It did not work out.

I currently have a super intelligent woman that that lives with me. She is frequently upset with me for some unknown reason. This is getting very old.

I'm not sure it's my problem or a women problem. My buddy says that I'm set in my ways, and he's right. Things will be going fine, then for no reason I am treated like a shitbag.

She works from home and I am retired. I do most of the chores and pay for most of the bills. Yet I feel like a guest in my own house.

How do you people stay married? No freaking way I would ever do that again...

Watch Enterpreneurs in Cars utube channel. Don't be disrespected in your own home. Inform her when she crosses the line and the ultimatum if she does it again. You don't have kids I assume and you are not married so this should be an easy decision.

As perilous as it may be to say anything not knowing both of you, sometimes it is helpful to not only step back from making hurt feelings worse, but find somewhere to get away together from the tension plus say something genuinely complimentary that you feel about her.

Hopefully if you decide she should move on, she doesn,t get half of what you own. Our neighbour has been married 3 different times, getting at least half each of the first two times. The guy she is married to now isn,t going to live much longer, but I don,t know how much she is going to get when he does pass .

Women are not controversial...they can be contentious.
