All I know is, cutting a car tire up into small enough pieces to fit in a trash bag ain't easy. Not that I've ever done it....

That's a father who "gets it". Someone is always watching and looking to peg you, especially when you're a minority. Being seen as a good example or good steward to your community, has value that can't be easily communicated or shown to the young.

In response to claims that people like George Washington just "lucked" into their positions, I have to remind people that they worked very hard to put themselves into the position where that luck can happen, it wasn't by accident. This is an example of that, being a good steward to your community has no immediate benefit to you, but will pay dividends when those who notice remember you each time they start to look for a quality employee or successor. Beyond that, it creates an example for others, and ultimately modifies the characteristic of the place in which you live.

I have to say, on my first trip to the Bay Area, I was flabbergasted by the amount of roadside trash, especially old used mattresses thrown out and abandoned.

I have traveled most of the Midwest and south, some of the east, and west, but the Bay Area struck me to be the worst experience of my life

It’s all out in the open and blatant…

I’ve seen trash hauled and a week later it’s trashed again.

In WA state it looks a lot cleaner but pull off the road and I often found old furniture and appliances in the woods…

That's the result of charging people to get rid of their trash.

It’s very expensive to self haul to transfer site but cities like Oakland have free as included with mandatory garbage service bulky pickups and it’s under utilized.

I have 6 yard dumpsters at work and one day I come to work and the 6 yard cardboard recycle dumpster is overflowing with concrete like from an old driveway…

Garbage truck could not lift it… not that they take concrete…

Spent the entire day taking out each piece and making several box trailer runs to transfer station at 120 per load…

...plus your salary time. I refrained from mentioning it in response to an earlier post, but I had a boss get fired for bringing personal work to trash and putting into the company dumpster. In that case, it included medical waste, mostly used syringes he was using to treat his many dogs. But most companies want to control what they're putting out there, to avoid issues like this.

2 of mine are people calling everyone that works outside “contractors” when the vast majority of them are not licensed contractors. The other one is people having a stroke every time someone clears a piece of land to build homes. Unless you live in a hut in the woods made from reclaimed grass then you have no right to get upset when someone else tries to do the same thing you already did.

Lock was cut so now I have 2 locks…

We have spot regulatory waste audits and the penalties steep.

Not using a clear bag is a fine…

Tossing marking pens used to mark surgery site in the trash is another.

Items people toss at home generate fines for commercial accounts… like that half bottle of shampoo no one likes will generate a fine.
