Before we switched over to Catahoula dogs all I ever had were GSheps. I couldn't go anywhere unless the dog was in the truck or in the back. I swore I'd not go through that again.

Now our dogs know if any one of 'em are in a pickup they are going to the vet. Their work is at home and that's the way they like it.

My dog knows when we are going to the pool or for a drive and will follow us around pushing open doors and running around like crazy.

The funniest is when I take out the recycling,
When I get the bags and recycling can out and ready she goes crazy . We then go to the garage, get the wagon, she likes to help me pull. Then we load up and go down the road to drop everything in the cans.
Not sure why she likes this one so much, as she usually is super lazy when I go to take her for the regular walks.

We got a free Cairn Terrier when we first got married back around 1986. That dog loved the car and truck. We'd take him out in the country and let him whine at the cows and horses. We'd tell him they were big doggies. :)

Boy did he slobber up the windows.

I dare you try to get mine into your car.... takes at least 2 of us to load Beyla. 150# of Nope not getting in that thing.
Gypsy is 10 now and still loves rides. But my truck is just a hair to high for her to get in on her own now.

She will get her front paws on the running boards. Then get them on the carpet for the back floor boards. I keep the back seats flipped up in the stored position.

Then she gets impatient until I hook my hands together under her belly and lift.

Then she walks her front feet forward.

I've had at least a hundred dogs in my lifetime but never had one that could catch a squirrel. My coon dogs could easily catch a coon at night and the untrained ones could catch a possum, mink or nutria. They would learn about nutria the hard way as the nutria would always bite them under the neck while going for the jugular vein.
But I have had a few barn cats that could catch a squirrel, eat its head off then dump it in the barn for me to see their prize.
My young Doberman could not catch a squirrel but would follow their scent and stand on the tree like a coondog but would not bark at it. He is well trained to come when I call him, except, when the cat leaves a squirrel in the barn for me to find. When he finds one of them, he treats it like the treasure he has been searching for all his life and it is next to impossible to catch him and take the squirrel away. At feeding time is the only chance I get to take away the squirrel as he will set it down to eat. I feel really bad when I take it away because he has a fit barking and whining to get the squirrel back but by this time it is already a mess and stinking like mad.

When I was a kid, we had a cat that would kill at least one chipmunk every day, chew its head off, then barf on the patio. That cat was 3 years old when I was born and lived until I was 18. So... thousands of barfed up chipmunk heads over its lifetime. 🤮

We had two dogs when I was still living at home with my folks. One was mine and one was my mom's. Mom's was a mostly border collie mix (looks of a border collie, brain of a mushroom). It would chase squirrels around and around a tree, while my dog, a shepherd/collie mix, would just sit there near the bottom of the tree motionless until the squirrel would make a mistake and then CHOMP! Then he'd drop it and just look at it while the border collie would prance around like she did a great job.

Our weiney dog ran a tight ship in the back yard.

Squirrels were his nemesis

He was sitting under one of the oak trees looking up at a squirrel.

All of a sudden a half eaten apple comes tumbling out of the oak tree and misses him by a couple feet

I told my wife, if we find him laid out in the yard with a half eaten apple next to him, we will know the squirrel won

There was a city park behind our house when we lived in town long ago. My oldest son and I were going for a walk with our GShep and she spied a squirrel and took off after it. It of course ran up a tree and chattered at the dog, then ran out on a branch to jump to another tree and lost its grip, falling. Falling straight down into the mouth of our dog. Crunch, limp squirrel. Right in front of us. My son was horrified and about to the point of tears but he learnt a lesson about life that day.
