Hay forks

I own a Kabota MX 5400 and i’m just getting some of my pasture hayed for the first time. I don’t own a set of hayforks and I was just wondering if you guys that do haying have recommendations on forks two prong three prong round, prong, etc. I’m not going to be producing much hay probably 15 rolls max. I know some operators use a fork on the back and a fork on the front. I will be loading a customer’s trailer and the rolls are 1300 to 1500 pounds. Any recommendations appreciated

I would start with loader mounted spear for loading. If you're carrying a long distance to and from the field to storage, or storage to the customer's vehicle you can add a 3 point spear to save time.
A regular set of forks will do just fine if you already have the them although you might end up forking a little dirt now and then.

If this is something you plan to do each year invest in a QA bale spear, one long prong and two small prongs.

I have both chain on style that goes on regular bucket and QA one. The chain on one is awkward and puts the bale way out front, but fits any loader bucket. QA one way nicer and keeps the bale closer to the loader arms.

With that few bales being handled, I’d be looking on FBM for a used bale spear. I like 2-prong versions better than one prong with the 2 auxiliary prongs. They are more useful for other tasks.

Another thought is if you are also considering pallet forks, they can be used for round bales.

I have a 3 full length prongs which can handle large squares and many other tasks

When I was looking, I decided on a two spear model. I read that it was more stable then one spear, but otherwise, I really don't know if that's true or not. I also use it for lifting pallets, carrying rolls of fencing and fence posts, so it's come in handy having two spears.

I use mine to carry saw logs and anything else too long to fit in the bucket. Pretty much hay spear/pallet fork in my use. Real handy to lift and carry the concrete railroad ties I have all over the place. The spears dig under them really nice and I can carry 3 at a time.

A two spear FEL set-up is my recommendation. It's stable for lifting, especially when loading, and for transporting.

ENSURE that you have ample ballast on the 3PH.
