My Dad worked at Sears Roebuck and a guy there sold vacuum cleaners door-to-door. One day he's out in the boondocks, knocks on this cabin door and an old lady lets him in. He has a vacuum cleaner & sprinkles a small bag of dirt around the room then asks where her outlet was. "We don't have electricity" she replied.

Guy came to my door asking if I'd like to become a Jehovah's Witness. I told him I didn't even see the accident.

I think that was a Red Skelton joke.

My wife would throw on a black cape and pentagram necklace saying "I'll listen to your religion if you'll listen to mine". We haven't seen them in years.

Almost forgot this one.
I was 10-12 and at the front of the barn at the folks farm.
Car pulls into the yard and out comes a JW asking if my father was available.
"Yeah."
"Can I speak with him?"
"Sure," and I go to get him.
My father was behind the barn killing chickens.
Pa comes out front spattered with blood holding a bloody hatchet.
Don't know why but they left really fast.

I put this sign up about 13 years ago alongside of my farm lane about 300 feet from the house. That took care of the Jehovah witnesses and almost everyone else that thought maybe I needed their flavor of jesus that drove past and ignored the 3 No Trespassing signs on their way in. Many a vehicle did a U turn in my hay field before getting to the house. The Amazon drivers and UPS drivers love it. They stop by the sign on the way out and take selfies with it.

Even though I'm not religious myself, I draw the line at making fun of someone else's beliefs. I will say my patience/tolerance was tested when I was in my 20s...for whatever reason I seemed to be a magnet for the born-againers who seemed to think I needed to be "saved".

I'd been working about 3 weeks straight but took a day off for a gathering at the family camp when 2 JW's came up and cornered me. I tried to politely get away but as you know, they're like stink on
My mother noticed, came over and ran them off... then said "you don't have to be nice to them."
She's one of those quiet, unassuming people who you might mistake for a pushover; but actually just shows the same respect she expects in return.

I have no problem with anyone wanting to have and practice their own flavor of religion or the lack there of. More power to them if that is what gets them through life. But I draw the line in the sand when they attempt to cram their religious beliefs down my throat and utilize fear mongering techniques to try and sway you over to their way of thinking. All joking aside, your religion should remain private between you and your god. Nuff said.

I haven't had any JWs or other breed of Bible thumpers knock on my door for a long time. Apparently, the after my conversations with some of them, the word got out that a cranky old atheist lives here.
And I wear the title proudly.
