New to me 60” has the stock grass flap and makes windrows to recut. I need to be able to close the chute off around cabin and wife’s flower beds and open it up away from buildings.
Several manual brands are available as well as Amazon generic starting at $150 up to foot controlled for $3-400.
Any TBNers use a manual chute blocker and would you buy another one?

I like Advanced Chute Systems, which I have used on my last 3 commercial mowers. They're simple and durable.

I've never tried one. Just tuning in to see what folks have to say. I might try one.

I just try to send the rooster tail discharge away from pretty things. Or use my rear discharge mower on the tractor.

I have one on my Exmark Laser, factory brand, and use it every week when mowing around the house and flower beds. It does leave a bit of a windrow when closed but the major reason I have it is all the pine cones that want to be projectiles. There are times I use it but not completely closed so I can direct the discharge more downward still scattering the cuttings but not leaving the windrow.

I’m wondering if one is worth the effort or just a ZTR fad. Seems most folks don’t use one?

Unless you have the full mulching kit it will leave windrows, its not meant for mulching, its meant to block to the discharged grass from going where you don't want it, that's it. A set of gator blades will help reduce the windrows a bit. I will never own another ZTR without an operator controlled chute blocker, its far from a fad. The exmark chute blocker is really nice and comes off and on very easily compared to others. Switching brands isn't going to fix the windrow issue.

Use one on my Deere Zero turn and works well.
