The trailers i've seen that work like that, usually the pilot car has the remote so they can steer the trailer around the object.
There is a windmill propellor manufacturer near the entrance to the Arkansas river port where my shop is located.
I've been stuck a few times for 25 minutes or so while they maneuvered 3 of those propellers out onto the road and then onto the interstate.

They have a cable that runs down each side of the trailer to control the rear steer on the trailer.
As they turn, one of the cable tightens and the other side loosens turning the axle.
Those are a little hinky though when the cable gets out of sync. Then they start tracking to the side
