Do any of you have trouble keeping the grease gun attached to the zerk when pumping the grease? I do. I put the "coupler" on the zerk and start pumping, but too often it comes off, so I have to put it back on over and over. I've tried buying new coupler ends for the grease gun and it helps, but it still comes off. I'm using a flexible hose, so I can't just push on it while pumping. Maybe the zerks are just getting worn out, so I may try new zerks. But, I was wondering if anyone makes a coupler end that goes on and then clamps on or something to keep it from coming off?

I have never had any luck in having the coupler stay on the zerks by itself, have always used a leg or part of the tractor to steady the gun while pumping with one hand and holding the coupler on the zerk with the other. Solved the problem by getting a grease gun with a pipe instead of flexible hose.

Oddly enough, I have had the opposite problem with the flex hose type. Once it builds pressure, I have a heck of a time pulling it off. Found that I could adjust that some what by turning the end collar a little to make it easier to get off. Maybe you can turn the collar to make it tighter.
I use the rigid type now.

For years I fought this very problem. It's very annoying, but just one of those things I thought I had to learn to live with. Then I decided to buy an extra greese gun to keep in the backhoe for a fitting that seems to need more grease than the others. It was a cheepy that only came with a metal tube. Not the flexible hose I've always used.

HOLELY MOLEY what a difference. Just hold and pump. It was faster and easier!!!!!!!!!!

I took the flex hose off my air grease gun and now it's a simple one hand operation to grease my fittings.

Both my dozer and backhoe have a fitting that I can't get to with the metal tube, so I have one hand grease gun with a flexible tube on it for those fittings.

My time spent greasing has been cut in half. If you haven't tried using the metal tube, I highly recomend it. I have always been told that the tube is better, but it's really not. It dificult to hold in place, and you need three hands to make sure it stays on and to pump the grease.

For the price of a second grease gun, your life will truly improve for very little money.

Good luck,
Eddie

I have the opposite problem too. I use the flex hose type (almost have to since there are fittings on my loader that can't be reached with a rigid type). The tip on mine snaps on and stays on, but won't come off, even without pressure. It is adjustable and when I loosen it up enough to come off properly....it won't stay on.

There has got to be a better way. I've come to dread this simple procedure. It is tedious and is a huge mess.

Maybe I'll get a rigid tube to at least make it easy to do the ones I can reach with it.

I use a pistol grip style that can be pumped with one hand and a flex hose. I have no trouble with tip staying on since I just hold it on the zerk. My trouble comes when it is time to wash my clothes it seems as though I get more on my clothes than in the fitting.:D

I think BB TX has it right that the clamping force can be adjusted by the collar. You might try that?
On another note, I have like 5 cheesy grease guns with metal tube and flexible hose. The metal tubes are better for one hand operation. The best one I have I got about 6 months ago when Harbor Freight was having a sale on the electric grease gun. I bought one for like $39 or $49 bucks and that sucker is GREAT!

I was impressed to say the least because I thought it would be another cheesy grease gun. It came with 2 batteries, a charger and a case. It can be filled with a tube or from a bucket and has a good bleed off system on it.

The nipple on it is great and can be adjusted from tight to loose. It stays on even with the flexible hose,

Now I can cruise and stay clean while greasing the tractor... even wearing light colored slacks. What a good deal.

Hope you guys don't mind me sharing, but it was a real treat to use.

Rob,

Thanks for the tip. I have been using air grease guns, but hate dealing with the hose. I think I'll give that harbor freight one a try!!

In your picture of you using the grease gun, don't you have to push in the rod to keep the grease flowing? hahahaha I kind of looks like your just standing there with a grease gun that's not really working. hahahahha

Thanks
Eddie

You caught that Eddie,
I should have pushed that darn thing in!!! I posted that same picture on another board and got a bunch of flack for it there too. Hahaha, it still worked with it sticking out like that though.
When I worked in a service station back in the 60's we used the air powered grease and oil guns. I always hated those hoses. LOL ... Same with my air compressor.

Hi guys, I just came across LockNlube.com. Seems like the answer to all of the problems outlined above. Kind of expensive at $29, but I just ordered one. Will report back with my experience with it. - Rob Sr.
