If you are going to shoot someone, then shoot them. What should he have used, one of those keychain .22s?

I just dont understand our laws where a person who habitual steels by breaking into your home get more rights even if dead than the one who is scared of losing property and feels unsafe on their own property.

I should come to expect this from the same justice system that lawfully allows abortions as a contraceptive.

It's very simple. Under common law, a human life is worth more than your personal property...therefore, you cannot set a lethal trap for a man who is breaking into your shop, barn, or even your own home...if you are not there. Now, under common law, if someone broke into your home, at night, and you were there, the law presumed they were there to do you harm and you had the right to blow them away. This has changed somewhat by statute in different states...the "Make my Day" law; I believe now in this state it doesn't have to be at night any more. In any case, this is nothing new, and as much as I hate thieves and burglars, I don't think it's right to set a trap to kill them...besides, you never know for sure who's going to spring your trap.

As for abortions, I see life as a continuum from conception to death, ergo, barring certain circumstances, I view abortion as morally wrong. Although morals play a big part in our system of justice, the Supreme Court has said that women have a Constitutional right to an abortion up to a point. Under common law, because historically there was a good chance the baby would never be delivered live, the fetus did not have the same rights unless and until it was born "quick". I agree that a woman has rights as to how her body is treated, and reluctantly I have to agree that a legal abortion solves some social and medical problems. I would rather, however that the parents take some personal responsibility from the start.

Just from reading the posts, can I assume three teens tried to Rob someone carrying an assault weapon? Or did they try and rob him, and he said wait here, and went to get the weapon.

That has nothing to do with booby traps. The teens tried to rob people at gunpoint in their front yard. One of the victims was armed and fought back. Still a tragic outcome. But a completely different subject.

That was pretty much self defense, pure and simple. You have always had the right to self defense. The bad guys fired the first shots? Kinda hard to fault the guy for fighting back.

I’m often amazed at the cluelessness of some people. From the article:

“That's not how it’s supposed to go. I understand one shot to stop the people, the victims or whatever, but aggressively to shoot these little teens, that's overkill.”

The attitude of blaming someone else for all their problems probably contributed to the mindset of the teens’ actions. I’m surprised he didn’t complain that the home owner should have shot the gun out of the kid’s hand.

That comment was made by young friends of the three that got killed.

You do have to wonder why they showed up on the property with at least one armed with a handgun. And why did they wear those masks? Perhaps they were hiding something? They didn't want their identity known? Why would they do that? Well we DO know it wasn't supposed to go like that. Yeah those "little teens" learned a hard lesson and had to take their bitter medicine. I bet their parents are so proud.

Had the gun been shot out of his hand, that would have cost the shooter millions, for now, the teen, will never become a brain surgeon.
