How the stimulus package works.

It is a slow day in the small Wyoming town of Creekbend, and streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody is living on credit.

A tourist visiting the area drives through town, stops at the motel, and lays a $100 bill on the desk saying he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs to pick one for the night.

As soon as he walks upstairs, the motel owner grabs the bill and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.

The butcher takes the $100 and runs down the street to retire his debt to the pig farmer.

The pig farmer takes the $100 and heads off to pay his bill to his supplier, the Co-op.

The guy at the Co-op takes the $100 and runs to pay his debt to the local prostitute, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer her "services" on credit.

The hooker rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill with the hotel owner.

The hotel proprietor then places the $100 back on the counter so the traveler will not suspect anything.

At that moment the traveler comes down the stairs, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, picks up the $100 bill and leaves.

No one produced anything. No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now out of debt and now looks to the future with a lot more optimism. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how a Stimulus package works.

Yesterday I checked out the link to sign up for direct deposit. After reading the information I realized that there are a lot of people right now who can use the money; whereas I would just blow it on something like a grapple or sawmill. I backed out of the site. I don't know if my not signing up will mean that somebody else will get their money a bit sooner, but when/if a check shows up in my mailbox I will put it to use.
I still think that we're borrowing money from kids who haven't even been born yet.

We have one here but only for those who are on a benefit scheme, as I am eligible for the aged pension I qualified and received the payment, I do not receive a pension as I am self funded and have a regular income from this that far exceeds what the government offer.
It is a strange criteria that has to be met and there was no application, it just turned up in my bank acc, I cannot refuse it.
I used it to pay my credit card which I use for every day purchases and pay off weekly.

My stimulus "check" showed up in my bank account today. I did not expect it, I did not ask for it, didn't sign up for anything, and can not refuse it either. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, but I want to be sure it does not go to China. And no, I don't need help with it. One option I'm actually thinking about is doing something for the health care workers.

I like that explanation, but it has been around for years, and really explains the totality of the world wide economy and not just limited to the Stimulus Package.

I no longer care, which is sad. I did read through the 882 pages of 2 Trillion stimulus to see what was in it, but it just no longer matters. There are so many back door deals for EVERYONE these days.

My Grandfather swore up and down he never took any government money, but for farmers every dollar taken is now online by some watchdog group. I am on it, but the neighbors my Grandfather complained about the most...was one higher than me at 18 on the list. I was 19...my grandfather was 9th! (I lost a lot of respect for him for that hypocrisy).

But a few years ago a Forester showed up from the local paper mill and boasted how his company was "investing" 234 million for a new paper machine. I smirked and told him that the State of Maine Tax Payers were paying for $190 million of the $234 million total bill. He felt pretty sheepish to find out his company was only ponying up 19% of the 234 million dollar upgrade.

As I said, it no longer bothers me because EVERYONE is on the take now. Who says who does what is just "spin"...

Being retired, this crisis has not affected my income. I expect to donate my stimulus to charity.

Best explanation I have ever read! I think there's probably a lot more truth to that kind of scenario than many of us might believe. It pretty much sums up 'getting something for nothing'.

Thanks for the post. I hope you don't mind if I share it with some of my financial "partners", partners being the slew of people on TV touting the free money loans, chopping $10,000 in taxes owed to pennies on the dollar, living free of debit through their reverse mortgage loan, etc..

Sending a dead person a check is no big deal; it is when those checks get cashed that I scratch my head/get concerned! (LOL)
