    I’ve popped them out of the ground with a spade a couple of times, sometimes I injure them doing this sometimes I don’t. If you pop them out they almost immediately start going back underground in what seems like a swimming motion.

    In my area gravel is usually granite. They remove the “cap rock” which is usually limestone or other soft rock and throw it away. I agree with the moisture is coming up through the gravel. You get certain days, usually in the spring where you get a sudden warm day and everything just gets wet.

    I’m not sure exactly how much weight I have in my ballast box, probably in the 500 to 600 pound range. I think my manual says 700 pounds. I also have loaded tires but that isn’t really counter balance.

    I got one today. I rolled my yard last week and saw a mole run an hour later, set a trap, nothing, they went around it. I picked another run out today, it looked less likely, got one within 2 hours. If you go back in this thread to post 12 is the trap I used.

    When people describe your problem, I always say load test the battery. Otherwise you don’t know if the battery is good. The volts alone doesn’t tell you. A load tester is less than $50.

    The way I look at firewood is I would already need a tractor and chainsaw so the only cost there for firewood is fuel and wear and tear on them. I own a log splitter but I got mine used at a good deal. There is a cost, no doubt but I’m pretty sure I come out ahead.

    I get what you’re saying. The load goes threw the tire to the ground a the axle doesn’t have to carry the load. One of the advantages of loaded tires in term os stability, you can’t get the weight any lower.

    With my tractor I can lift the same amount of weight if I have my ballast box hooked up or not. It limited by the hydraulic pressure in the loader. Having the ballast box hooked up has nothing to do with how much I can lift. The ballast box just takes the load off the front axle.

    Maybe I missed someone saying it but the tricky part is starting the turn backing up. You have to turn the truck what seems like the wrong way to get the trailer started the way you want. Once started, the you spin the wheel around and follow with the truck.

    My tow strap has a loop on each end. Say the vehicle I’m pulling out has a tow hook. I pass one end through the loop and tow hook and pull it all the way through itself. Then hook it to the ball inserted into my trailer hitch.

    Im lucky I can get 91 octane ethanol free fuel. For a while I was using 87 octane ethanol free. I never knew what was worse, running to low an octane or using 10% ethanol. Stihl is saying 89 octane in their manual for their chainsaws.

    This picture is what I did with mine. There is a fuel line running to the tank from this new filter and then back again to the fuel pump. I can’t think of a reason you couldn’t just use a factory filter in this spot instead of the Racor unit I used. Sorry, forgot the picture.

    The key to using the traps is learning where to place the traps. After a while you learn where they are more likely active, kind of a main run so to speak. Sometimes I put a trap out and have doubts and other times I can tell it’s likely to get one. Once you put them out there isn’t much to do.
