Overkill......Maybe. But easy is easy regardless of the approach. The pine cones are my kindling. Plus it works great if the wood is slightly damp from rain or snow as well.

No I put the bentonite on hold. I wasn't confident with the late season that I could get it done before winter set in and didn't want to store it. I also felt it would probably be best to make sure soil is stable around the pond that I cleared. Don't won't to spend a lot of time for it to just...

I dug it during covid and haven't done anything with it since then until recently. This has not been a 4 year project. It filled halfway and then life returned to normal. I'm just now getting back around to trying to get it to fill the rest of the way. I never tracked hours on the machine.

Started mucking out the pond today before the rain started this afternoon. I may have found my problem, or at least one of them. While mucking I hit rock in the shallower flat area away from the dam so started digging a bit and found a pretty good size area of rock and sandy soil just under...

Ran into a bit of a snag trying to get the pond to siphon. It wouldn't siphon so I knew I had a break. After capping and letting the water run into my T on top of the dam I finally found the break when it came to the surface. It pulled loose at the elbow on top of the dam on the backside...

I talked to a pond builder that warned me that bentonite rarely works. He was assuming I was using the above method on an already filled pond. He did not have much insite on the tilling method on a dry pond as he said he did not take any pond jobs where he felt soil was suspect.

Online calculator from lonestar minerals shows I would need 39,000 lbs so I would just order a full flatbed of their 3,000lb supersacks which would be 45,000 lbs. Supersacks are opened at the bottom then drive with the trackloader to spread. Could be tricky on the slopes.

Checked the water level this evening. In 4 days I have lost exactly 7/8 of an inch so a little less than a quarter inch per day. Temps in the'70s and 2 days with lots of wind. Humidity in the low 20s so I know some of that is evaporation. Doesn't mean it's not leaking at higher water levels...

Yard stick is in. I'll check it over the next several days to see what the loss rate is. With temps in the low to mid 70s for highs this week I would think most loss will be due to seepage and not evaporation. At this point unless the yardstick is showing a lot of loss my plan is to work on...

    Anyone watching Super Bowl?

For the most part I do but on the NFL I've decided the family time is more important to me. I could do without the NFL, wouldn't bother me any, but it's something several family members enjoy so if they want to watch the games I'll enjoy the time I'm able to spend with them.
