I refilled the steering box with the same fluid I will be using in the hydro. After changing the fluid I adjusted the steering free play. Had to turn the cam in about one full turn to remove the slop. I need a knob for my flasher switch, anyone have one for sale?

I did it cold and not running. adjusted them several times. It seemed turning the motor over would change the clearance slightly. Got the rims painted with some por15 today. Just did the inside where the rust was bad. It has a self leveling property to it and will promote a good bead seal when...

Got a few more things done tonight after the kids were asleep. Put some muffler patch on the hole in the muffler. Looks and feels like JB weld. Replaced one of the radiator mounts as the old one was broke. Tomorrow I hope to get some painting done and change the steering box fluid.

The valve cover all cleaned up and new sales going in. The head all cleaned up. Had to clean out the ports in there too. It's a weird design, it's a split port for the exhaust with half the exhaust going into the valve cover and half going out the exhaust manifold. The exhaust manifold...

The leaf blower really did the job, got lots more stuff out. I'm hoping I'm good now. On to the next project...Valve adjustment. Cover removed. Had lots of soot and oil in the side chamber. Not really sure what it does, maybe some kind of warming area? In this shot you can really see all...

I've decided I will hold off on replacing this tire till time permits. I need this tractor for hauling firewood, and the season is fast approaching. Found a nice surprise hiding in the bell housing up around the flywheel/clutch area. Little devils were busy! My next thought was how the heck...

Thanks Fido, it's been a lot of work, but I enjoy tinkering around on old equipment. I'm not sure on the total dollar amount yet. I hate to look until everything is done. I paid $1100 for the tractor and woods finishing mower, plus he delivered it. Not sure why it sat really. I bought it from an...

Got the water pump installed. Here is the old and new side by side. Also replaced the thermostat while in there. Since these engines are prone to cracking heads if they overheat I decided to install a temp gauge. Will also be doing oil press, and volt meter. All done and buttoned up. I was...

Also started on the water pump. The first bolt I tried to remove broke off in the head...great! Pulled the hoses off and found lots of corrosion around the neck of the bottom hose barb. After breaking the first bolt off the rest came out with no problem. After lunch the new t-stat...

Some work on the front axle today. Removed the axle to replace the bushings. A side by side of the old and new bushings. Since I don't have a press, I had to collapse the bushing on itself with a chisel and screw driver. Was then able to drive it out from the other side. The new...

Thanks sld, lots more to do for sure. Did some front end work today also. See anything wrong with this steering rod? How about now? Got it mostly straight, good enough for Gov't work. Also needed new ball joint boots. I reinstalled the metal rings, they were pretty rough but will...

On to the brakes. The pedals would not move when I first got the tractor. Tried greasing everything, but the zerks were missing. Installed some zerks and shot some grease in, but still were sticky. So....we had to pull off the linkages and springs to remove the pedal to get at the shaft...

Moving along... Got the hyd strainer replaced today. The cover removed. Was a bear to get it off. The old and new together. There was a bit of trash in there, nothing crazy. Will be saving this filter as it was seriously expensive. Replaced the o-ring on the cover. Also replaced the...

Got a few filters changed today. The filter from NH was a it smaller than the Napa one that was on there. The cover for the hyd filter removed. There was an o-ring on the cover plate that I did not see in the parts manual. Anyone have a part number for me? The old and new filter side by...

Spent all morning behind a wire wheel knocking off rust and loose paint. Also used a bore scope to look inside the bell housing for nesting material. There was some in there, but not much. Not enough for me to worry about at this moment. Eventually I would like to split the tractor and...

Got the seat figured out, I had to flip the mounting plate around 180 degrees, it now is centerline. Lots of welding done today...horrible, chicken poop welding...lol. Welded a bushing onto the seat pivot as it was wallowed out. Have some stacked washers on the other side welded in too...

Was looking at the seat mounting plate and it appears to be off center kind of like a cub would be. Does anyone know why? I'm going to pull the plate and see if there is an adjustment for this, seems kind of odd to me. Here is a pic. Also worked on repairing the broken fender mounts. I tried...

A few words about mice abatement. My tractor had a huge mouse nest in the hydro stat linkage bay which caused lots of damage. I'm not certain, but I believe they may have made their way into the hydro pump/clutch bay via the control rod opening in the first bay. I have a bore scope somewhere so...

A bit more done today. Pulled the alternator because I didn't want to get it wet while degreasing the tractor. I was going to use a power washer, but decided a garden hose, engine brite, and a scrub brush would be less intrusive. Got lots of small bits wire wheeled down, cleaned and painted...

Got the tire off, what a battle that was. I first used a hook blade in a utility knife to cut around the base of the bead on the side of the tire on both sides. I was then able to remove the tread portion and the tube. The tube was rusted to the rim in parts and along the bead. I was then...

Fuel tank and tank support removed. This is how she sits tonight. I have lots of repairs, adjustments, and modifications to make still, but this is as far as the tear down will go before paint. Next is the cleaning process, then rust de-scaling.

Kind of quiet on this forum. Put a call in to a salvage yard in Kentucky about a rim, waiting to hear back. NH want $265 for a new one. Got the electrical mostly removed today. Also got the fenders pulled as well as the lights. A problem I had on both fenders was one of the mounts was...

Moving along on the tires. Got the front tires off pretty easy. Some rust, but not bad. The rear tires were another story. I can't break the bead. Going to take them to a tire shop. Also found some pretty bad corrosion around the valve stem. Might have to find a new rim. A quick search isn't...

Got the tires pulled, but not dismounted yet. The fronts should be easy, the rears have me a bit concerned...lol. They are loaded, so I'm trying to get all that junk out at the moment. Found a nice crack on the front frame. Both sides are about halfway cracked through just in front of the...

Some good news finally...my tires arrived today! I have everything pulled for the waterpump change. It is pretty loose and appears to have been leaking. The back side of the pump pulley has some corrosion in there from the leaking. I finished cleaning out the mouse nest in the hydro...

Here is the nesting material. There is some pretty severe rusting inside the cavity. I was having issues with the hydro foot pedal returning to neutral, guess I figured out the problem. Also removed the hydro lock cover to check for the little devils under there, nobody home though...

Houston we have a problem! Finally got around to draining all the fluids today. Engine oil was black as coal, hope that is normal for a diesel. The hydro oil was dark brown and had some milky color to it at points. I drained the three plugs I talked about in my last post. Is there anymore I'm...

Moving along on the 1210. Go the radiator off today. It is more than half plugged with gunk. Might find a local shop to hot tank it. The muffler came off after some persuasion with penetrating oil and punch and chisel. Looking for some input on good high temp paint. Anyone use anything that...

Adjusted the clutch free play at the pedal. I now have one inch of free play instead of the two I had before. Had to adjust the safety switch too. There is also a max travel stop screw, but I don't know how to adjust that. Didn't see anything in the service manual. Here is how she sits...

Had a devil of a time pulling the steering wheel. Finally got it off though with a bearing puller. The coolant drained out today. Wasn't much in there, and nothing came out of the block. Guess that means it's blocked, I hope. Got the seat pulled off. The holes are elongated on the flip...

The air filter housing was really rusty on the inside. I pulled it apart and shot some rust reformer on it and a fresh coat of paint. Hard to see in the pic, but the hose fitting is nearly rotted off. I have lots of welding to do also. The hood is pretty cracked up, as well as the weight...

I recently acquired a 1210 with a Woods 59" finishing mower. This tractor has been stored in a lean to shed since 1998. It does run and drive, but needs new tires as they are all dry rotted, worn, and full of plugs. So where do I go from here? I'd like to get it mechanically sound so I can...
